NBA DPOY Odds Movement Timeline
- March 5: Evan Mobley has moved to the top of the NBA Defensive Player of the Year odds table. Back in January, the Cavs’ forward was averaging +1133 to win the DPOY in 2025; now, he’s an overwhelming favorite at -207.
- February 20: Wemby is out! With the Spurs shutting Victor Wembanyama down for the season, the Grizzlies’ Jaren Jackson Jr (-115) is the new DPOY favorite, sitting just ahead of the Cavs’ Eavan Mobley (+125).
- November 25: Wembanyama is already a -196 favorite to win DPOY. Second-favorite Mobley is way back at +960.
2024 NBA Defensive Player of the Year Odds
Notes on the NBA Defensive Player of the Year odds movement over the course of the 2023-24 season include:
- Mar. 26, 2024: It’s now a seven horse race as sportsbooks have narrowed the DPOY field, but Rudy Gobert remains way out in front with odds averaging at -635.
- Jan. 12, 2024: Gobert (-164) is the odds-on favorite mid-way through the regular season with Holmgren (+775) and Anthony Davis (+788) in a veritable tie for second-favorite.
- Nov. 4, 2023: Despite his Grizzlies remaining winless, Jaren Jackson Jr is still the DPOY favorite nearly two weeks into the season.
- Oct. 26, 2023: Early in the regular season, Jackson (+475) remains the favorite in the NBA DPOY odds, but Mobley has shortened to +662.
- July 10, 2023: Jackson Jr has opened as the favorite to repeat in the 2024 NBA Defensive Player of the Year odds, followed by Mobley.
2023 NBA Defensive Player of the Year Odds

- March 5: Jackson (-227) is maintaining his lead at the top of the board. Former favorite Lopez is a competitive second at (+344).
- January 24: Jaren Jackson is now -235 to win his first DPOY award. Nic Claxton (+650) is a distant second-favorite.
- December 12: Brook Lopez (+102) has taken over as the 2023 DPOY betting favorite with Anunoby (+500) a distant second.
- November 13: Giannis (+295) is now the 2023 NBA DPOY betting favorite with Gobert fading to +538. Evan Mobley improved to +700 and now sits third.
- October 25: Gobert improved from +475 to +348 a week into the season, while Giannis is now second, moving from +1000 all the way to +550.
- August 28: Minnesota center Rudy Gobert has opened as the favorite followed by Miami center Bam Adebayo.

- [Jan 27] Draymond remains the favorite, as we haven’t seen movement in the race over the past week
- [Jan 19] Gobert has come back from his bout with Covid, and has seen his odds shorten to +170, while Green has lengthened from odds-on favorite back to an average of +100 to +110 at most sportsbooks
- [Jan 12] With Rudy Gobert on the Covid list, Draymond Green has shifted to the odds-on favorite to capture the award
- [Dec 23] Draymond has shortened to average odds of +130, and can be found as short as +110 at the FanDuel Sportsbook
- [Dec 17] Amidst cancellations, Draymond Green remains the favorite. Anthony Davis remains in the top five despite going on the shelf with an MCL sprain for the next month
- [Dec 10] It looks to still be a two-man race between Draymond and Gobert, while Giannis has seen his odds slightly shorten over the past week
- [Dec 3] The Warriors have the best record in the league on the strength of their defense, as Draymond Green’s odds have shortened to +188 in favorites’ position on average
- [Nov 24] Draymond Green and Bam Adebayo’s prices are shortening amidst their teams’ host start to the year
- [Nov 17] Jimmy Butler has led a Heat defense that’s in the top five on the young season, seeing his odds shorten in to the top seven at odds of +2500
- [Nov 9] With LeBron indefinitely sidelined, AD is picking up the slack on the defensive end, and his odds have shortened to +400 on average
- [Nov. 5] While Gobert remains the favorite, Ben Simmons has totally fallen out of the race while in his stalemate with the 76ers, leaving space for Giannis Antetokounmpo to jump in at average odds of +620
- [October 15] No significant movement in the DPOY odds with the season looming next week
- [October 5] Despite refusing to play if not traded from Philly, Ben Simmons’ odds have not slipped from an average of +500
- [June 9] Can Rudy Gobert win four DPOY awards in five seasons? The opening odds favor him to do just that, although Ben Simmons is right on his heels at odds of +350

2021 NBA Defensive of the Year Odds
- [June 9] Gobert was given the award on June 9th, giving the French big man his third DPOY selection since entering the league
- [May 18] With the regular season wrapped up, Gobert’s odds have gotten even shorter to win. He’s now basically a lock at odds of -3168
- [May 11] Gobert’s odds continue shortening as it looks like the award is his, now at odds of -1950
- [May 4] With Myles Turner missing time, his average odds have faded to +1900. Gobert remains the heavy favorite
- [April 27] Gobert’s grip has tightened further on the award, at odds of -453
- [April 22] With less than a month of the season to go, we’re yet to see a player seriously challenge Rudy Gobert at average odds of -308
- [April 15] Rudy Gobert’s odds have shortened further, now at an average price of -335
- [April 8] The DPOY race remains flat, as Gobert is still a significant odds-on favorite
- [April 1st] Not much movement this week in the DPOY race, as Rudy Gobert remains -223 favorite
- [March 24] Rudy Gobert remains the heavy favorite, while Embiid’s odds have shortened back to +1800 as he’s returned to the court
- [March 16] With Embiid suffering a knee bruise to knock him out of action for a few weeks, his DPOY odds have faded all the way to an average of +3050, making this a four player race
- [March 9] Gobert is still the favorite, but Simmons is now the consensus second choice, at average odds of +243
- [March 3] Simmons’ rise continues as the 76ers Aussie star is now at average odds of +300. Gobert remains the heavy -205 favorite
- [February 24] As Embiid carries a lot of the load on offence, Simmons has picked it up on the defensive end for the East leading Sixers, and has improved his DPOY odds to an average of +725
- [February 16] Utah remains the class of the league, and Gobert is now the odds-on favorite to win the award, at a price of -140
- [February 10] With the Jazz sitting at an NBA best 20-5 record, Gobert’s status as their anchor has continued to shorten his price for DPOY, now at average odds of +180
- [February 4] Rudy Gobert has overtaken Anthony Davis as the favorite, now at odds of +225 as Utah is the hottest team in the NBA
- [January 19] Myles Turner has broken out for the Pacers on the defensive end through the first month of the season, and now has odds of +825 for DPOY, inside the top five
- [January 6] Ben Simmons impressive start to the season has surged him into the top five contenders, now at average odds of +850 after opening at +2400
