Another privately-owned sports betting site has been given the green light to launch in the Ontario sports betting market, as BetMGM Canada has received official AGCO approval.

BetMGM Canada is ready to make their mark in the country’s most populous province. The renowned sportsbook has already signed hockey greats like Wayne Gretzky and Connor McDavid to brand endorsement deals, showing they’re serious about winning over sports bettors in the Great White North.

Catch all the details on the launch of BetMGM Canada, with additional information on the other sportsbooks set to debut on April 4.

BetMGM Canada Receives AGCO Approval for Apr. 4 Launch

The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) is working in partnership with iGaming Ontario (iGO) to regulate privately-owned sportsbooks in Ontario. BetMGM Canada was expected to be one of the first private sports betting sites available in province, and that is now confirmed after they received official AGCO approval.

Privately-owned sportsbooks like BetMGM Canada will bring more value to Ontario sports bettors, who are currently limited to lottery-run platforms like PROLINE. With a sleek mobile betting app and some of the best promos in the entire industry, BetMGM Canada is sure to be a popular choice for players in the Ontario iGaming market.

BetMGM Canada is now the sixteenth operator to receive AGCO approval. Up to 30 sportsbooks could be allowed to go-live on April 4, flooding the Ontario sports betting market with new sports betting sites that will give fans a better way to get closer to the action in their favourite games.

Wayne Gretzky, Connor McDavid Endorsing the BetMGM Brand

Despite the stiff competition from other sportsbooks, BetMGM Canada is serious about making an impact in this emerging market. They’ve been aggressive in locking up brand ambassador deals, signing two hockey greats to official partnerships ahead of the April 4 launch date.

BetMGM signaled their intention to enter the Canadian sports betting market back in the summer of 2021 when they added Wayne Gretzky to their team. The greatest hockey player of all time is recognized across Canada, and he will play an important part in growing brand awareness for BetMGM Canada.

BetMGM Canada didn’t stop there, as they also signed Edmonton Oilers star forward Connor McDavid to a similar agreement. Widely considered the best player currently in the NHL, McDavid was the first active player to sign with a privately-owned legal sports betting site.

Other sportsbooks in Canada will likely look to sign their own brand sponsorships deals as the various operators compete for coveted market share. With over 15 platforms set to launch in Ontario on April 4, Canadians will have no shortage of choice when it comes to privately-operated sportsbooks.

Additional sportsbooks like FanDuel, PointsBet, theScore Bet, and BetRivers have already received AGCO approval and are preparing to go-live across Ontario on April 4. These sports betting sites are expected to arrive in other provinces like British Columbia and Alberta in the near future.
