Santiago Betting Analysis

Alexandro Santiago is a 28-year-old orthodox fighter with excellent hand speed and combination punching abilities. Oddsmakers have set “Peque” as a notable underdog Friday despite the fighter impressing last time out.

YouTube video

Santiago, who has a record of 26-3-5 with 14 KOs, is coming off a great win against Nonito Donaire, a former multi-weight world champion and future Hall of Famer. The Mexican boxer displayed an incredible performance to become a world champion and is ready to defend his title.

Santiago utilizes his swift hands and defensive skills to outpoint opponents, though he lacks serious one-punch knockout power compared to other top bantamweights. His biggest career win came in July 2023 when he defeated the aforementioned legend Nonito Donaire to capture the WBC bantamweight championship.

Nakatani Betting Analysis

Junto Nakatani is a 26-year-old southpaw puncher with fight-changing power, evidenced by his 73% knockout ratio. He enters the ring on Friday with an unblemished undefeated record, making him the heavy favorite in the boxing odds.

YouTube video

Nakatani has a record of 26-0 with 19 KOs and has already won world titles at flyweight and super flyweight. The lefty from Japan will enter his third weight class in three-and-a-half years, and a dominant win could pave the way for the unification bouts he desires.

He possesses advantages in height at 5’7″ and reach at 67 inches compared to the shorter Santiago. Nakatani also shows impressive accuracy with his straight left hand and right hooks. However, he can sometimes be drawn into slugfests, which leaves defensive openings for his opponents to exploit.

Santiago vs Nakatani Prediction

While Santiago’s performance against Donaire secured his world title, the timing played a significant role in his victory. Donaire, known as “The Filipino Flash,” was aging at 40 and showing signs of decline. It’s unlikely that many fight enthusiasts would favor Santiago against Donaire from five or six years earlier.

Nakatani is at his best right now and has several advantages. Standing at 5-7, he’s taller by four-and-a-half inches and has a reach advantage of one-and-a-half inches (67 to 65 ½). He’s also a southpaw, hits hard, and has the home advantage. Basically, it’s going to be tough for the defending champion.

Santiago has never been knocked out, but there’s always a first time. The challenger is eager to make a mark in his new weight class before going after other champions. Nakatani’s knockout win over Andrew Moloney showed just how powerful his punches can be.

Saturday Boxing Pick

  • Junto Nakatani by KO/TKO/DQ (-110 at DraftKings)
