Queensberry has marketed it as “Dave vs Goliath” and the odds back that up. Hrgovic is a heavy favorite, and I think the Croatian finds the stoppage in the second half.

Hrgovic should take this, and I’m betting on a late stoppage. The Croatian operates at a different level than Allen when it comes to pedigree and punching power.

Look at the resumes. Hrgovic won Olympic bronze and has only lost to Daniel Dubois, who just claimed the WBO title by stopping Fabio Wardley. Since that Dubois fight, Hrgovic has outpointed Joe Joyce and David Adeleye in consecutive outings. All four major governing bodies rank him in the heavyweight top 10.

Allen has a huge heart and brings a loud home crowd, but his record speaks for itself. He’s been stopped four times: Luis Ortiz in round 7, Tony Yoka in round 10, David Price in round 10, Frazer Clarke in round 6. Every knockout loss landed between rounds 6 and 10.

The Yorkshireman is tough to put away early. He absorbs punishment and hangs around. But when big punchers push him into the later rounds, they find him. Hrgovic carries a 74% knockout rate. I expect him to let Allen stick around through the first half, then break him down as fatigue sets in.

The Doncaster faithful will roar Allen on, but talent and power usually decide fights. I expect Hrgovic to finish him between rounds 6 and 10.
