  • Wood vs Joyce & Socarras vs Walsh goes Friday, October 4th at 3 PM ET
  • Who will triumph when Wood collides with Joyce?
  • Can Socarras notch a surprise win or will Walsh prove the oddsmakers correct?

MTK’s Golden Contract Featherweight Tournament is an eight-man, single elimination tournament in which the winner will earn a five fight contract with MTK Global.

York Hall in Bethnal Green, London is where the proceedings will be taking place and the broadcast goes on Sky Sports Action.

Leigh Wood takes on David Oliver Joyce in a WBO European featherweight title, while Ryan Walsh fights Hairon Socarras in a match of divisional importance that sits pretty on the marquee.

Leigh Wood vs David Oliver Joyce Odds

Fighter Odds
Leigh Wood -190
David Oliver Joyce +155

Wood Collects More Gold

Wood is the commonwealth champion and is coming off of a successful defense of that belt in his last outing.

Though Wood is not known for his stopping power, he was able to score a KO and is looking to carry that momentum into claiming another belt.

Joyce has an edge with the knockout rate as he sits at 73 percent while Wood’s sits at just 55 percent. Joyce also has an extensive amateur background but I don’t think it will be enough for him.

I see Wood outboxing Joyce en route to a lopsided decision victory.

Pick: Wood (-190)

Socarras Looking to Stay Undefeated

Socarras vs Walsh is another bout within the aforementioned featherweight tournament. Socarras has an unblemished record and a compelling style heading into this one. Walsh has been competing for close to twelve years but still has the potential for more.

Some pundits see him as a guy whose skills could translate well on an international scale even outside of the localized scene.

Hairon Socarras vs Ryan Walsh Odds

Fighter Odds
Hairon Socarras +135
Ryan Walsh -165

Walsh is one of the bigger favorites in the tournament overall. Obviously this leads me to believe that he’ll be scoring the W in this outing.

This makes it that much more impressive than Socarras specifically picked Walsh during the draw which set up the tournament brackets.

Walsh Wins His Tournament Bout

The winner of this tournament gets a five-fight deal with a major promotion. You can tell both of these boxers are hungry to make that leap towards the worldwide stage after successes on their respective circuits.

Walsh has a stronger strength of schedule and has defeated more reputable opponents than Socarras. Though Socarras is undefeated, he definitely has a few cans littered throughout the earlier days of his record.

Walsh’s KO rate is sub 50 percent, so I can’t see him closing things out with a knockout. I do see him using superior ring craft to piece up Socarras until he scores a decision win.

Pick: Walsh (-165)
