Heisman Odds After Week 3: Chambliss Joins Mensah at the Top

Two quarterbacks pulled away from the field this weekend. Trinidad Chambliss knocked off No. 7 LSU and ran in the go-ahead score himself. Darian Mensah kept Miami perfect and rewrote the ACC record book on accuracy.

Everything under them got messy. Several quarterbacks put up the kind of numbers that normally shorten a price, only to watch their odds go the other way.

Here’s where the Heisman odds stand after Week 3, and which prices are worth a second look heading into Week 4.

Heisman Odds After Week 3

Each co-favorite has an implied probability of 23.5% before the bookmaker’s margin. Four players sit at +1000 behind them, so there is a clear gap between the leaders and the next group.

Chambliss moved from +1300 to +325 in a week, joining Mensah, who shortened from +600. Taylor went from +3000 to +1000, leaving a much smaller payout for anyone who waited until his first SEC game.

Chambliss and Mensah Take Over the Top

Ole Miss led LSU 24-7 at halftime, gave it all back, then won 32-24 on a Chambliss rushing touchdown. That gives him a signature SEC win to go with his early-season production, and it came in a matchup between two top-10 teams.

Mensah took a different route. He went 30-of-34 for 220 yards and three scores in a 33-20 win over Wake Forest, and his first 24 attempts were all completions. That stretched to 35 straight across two games, setting Miami and ACC records.

Malachi Toney chipped in 12 catches for 114 yards and a touchdown, and his odds shortened from +1200 to +1000.

Risers and Fallers in the Heisman Odds

Kamario Taylor’s jump into the top three at +1000 was well earned. Mississippi State fell behind 16-0 at South Carolina and won 41-34, with Taylor throwing for 251 yards and four touchdowns. The Bulldogs are 3-0, and he now shares a tier with Manning, Smith and Toney.

Sam Leavitt was one of the biggest fallers after LSU’s loss at Ole Miss. His odds lengthened from +1400 to +5000, leaving him well behind the quarterback who beat him Saturday night.

Julian Sayin drifted from +1000 to +3000 despite an 18-of-22, 241-yard, two-touchdown afternoon in a 59-3 rout of Kent State. Jermiah Smith slid to +1000 on five catches for 85 yards, though he did pass Michael Jenkins to become Ohio State’s career receiving leader.

Where the Heisman Value Sits After Week 3

Both +325 tickets are priced like this is a two-man race in September. There is still most of a conference schedule left for both quarterbacks, and plenty of time for the +1000 group to close the gap.

Keelon Russell (+4000 at BetMGM) is the strangest number on the board. He went 23-of-30 for 320 yards and three touchdowns, added a rushing score, and brought Alabama back from 15 down to beat Florida State 50-36. His price got longer anyway.

Gunner Stockton sat still at +4000 while Georgia moved to 3-0 with a 45-17 win at Arkansas. He threw only 13 passes but led the team with 97 rushing yards, including a 62-yard run, giving him valuable production beyond the passing game.

Arch Manning at +1000 is the one to be careful with. Texas is 3-0 and has the head-to-head win over Ohio State, but a 30-6 win over UTSA did nothing for his statistical argument.
