  • The Tour Championship tees off September 4th-7th with a $15 million pay day on the line
  • Just 30 golfers start the FedEx Cup finale at pre-determined scores based upon their playoff standings
  • We’ve narrowed down the golfers with the best chance of emerging victorious

The culmination of the FedEx Cup Playoffs and accompanying $15 million dollar prize begins Friday at the Tour Championship from East Lake Golf Club just outside downtown Atlanta.

The tournament will be concluded on Labor Day Monday as opposed to the traditional Sunday finishes on tour.

This is the second year of the altered FedEx Cup finale format which sees Dustin Johnson starting the tournament in the lead by two strokes over BMW Championship winner Jon Rahm, with every golfer’s score staggered based on where they’re ranked.

Dustin Johnson Coming In Two Shots Ahead

Since this is just the second year of the new FedEx Cup format, it is important to note the starting positions for all golfers competing.

Naturally, the top players on the points list will have a better chance of securing victory, with Dustin Johnson beginning at 10-under par, with the 26-30 ranked golfers starting a full ten strokes behind at even par.

The World #1 lost in dizzying fashion to #2 ranked Jon Rahm at the BMW Championship on Sunday, when the fiery Spaniard drained the most improbable of putts to snatch the title away from him.

The FedEx Cup has long eluded DJ, but he’s already ahead of his competitors and is coming off an eleven shot romp at The Northern Trust and a playoff loss at the BMW.

He’s gained over 26 shots tee-to-green on the field in just his last two events, something that will bode well for the precision required to tame East Lake.

I like his chances to sew up his first FedEx Cup title at a place that he’s racked up five career top-10 finishes despite the short odds of +200. If you want more value, his +575 number to shoot the best without starting strokes is enticing.

Tour Championship Best Value Picks

  1. Webb Simpson (+1100): Starts just four shots back and is refreshed, having taken last week off. Posted three top-5 finishes at this venue in his career. Two wins on the season and coming off T-6 and T-3 finishes.
  2. Rory McIlroy (+1100): Twice a winner of the FedEx Cup (2016, 2019), McIlroy showed signs of life at the BMW before settling for a tie for 12th. Good vibes on this track coupled with clutch play at East Lake, where he could be the first ever three-time champ of the FedEx Cup. Begins seven back but is third in scoring average in both the first and second rounds this season which would help him close the gap.
  3. Collin Morikawa (+1900): Starts in fifth position, five back of DJ. The PGA Champion also has a victory at the Workday Charity Open on the campaign. Second in strokes gained: approaching the green and fourth tee-to-green this season.
