After Ludvig Aberg shot a final round 66 to claim the Genesis Invitational trophy in a tight duel with Maverick McNealy, the PGA Tour heads to the Mexico Open at VidantaWorld. The Genesis was a signature event with a loaded field, but this week’s tournament has a very thin display of talent competing. McNealy, who very nearly won his second trophy with a final round 64, was the favorite but he decided to withdraw Monday. Keep in mind, six of the first seven champions in 2025 have been international players, with Harris English the lone American emerging victorious.

Maverick McNealy was the top choice to win at +1200, but since he withrew, Akshay Bhatia now claims tops billing at +1400. He’s followed by Rasmus Hojgaard, who missed the cut by a whopping eleven strokes at the Genesis Invitational. Prior to that, he had six top-25s in his previous seven times teeing it up. Patrick Rodgers, Kurt Kitayama and Sam Stevens round out the top-five.

Can Patrick Rodgers Finally Break Through?

Patrick Rodgers had a decorated college career, winning eleven times at Stanford, tying the record set by Tiger Woods. He’s not been able to translate that to the PGA Tour, but he very nearly did that Sunday, holding the lead entering the final round. He wasn’t able to close it out, but still had an excellent tie for third result.

Past Three Mexico Open at VidantaWorld Winners

YearWinner
2024Jake Knapp
2023Tony Finau
2022Jon Rahm

*Note – there has only been three Mexico Open’s contested, with Jon Rahm winning the first one in 2022, then Tony Finau in 2023, followed by defending champion Jake Knapp.

Rodgers has also really excelled at this venue, having racked up three top-10’s in three attempts, with his tie for sixth last year his best finish. In that span, he’s first in total strokes gained and third tee-to-green. There’s now two golfers with shorter odds to win than him this week, meaning you’re getting him at solid enough value at +2200 to finally get break through for his maiden tour title.

Mexico Open at VidantaWorld 2025 Predictions, Picks and Value Bets

  1. Jake Knapp +4000 (was +5000): This is low hanging fruit, given that he’s the defending champion, but at +5000, there’s intrigue. He’s coming off a top-20 at the Genesis Invitational, and was tops in ball striking and tee-to-green at this venue at year ago. Given that this is a weaker field, this price is actually pretty good, with not many proven winners competing.
  2. Michael Thorbjornsen +5500 (was +6500): Michael Thorbjornsen is coming off the top spot in the PGA Tour university rankings. Although 2025 hasn’t started super well, he did post a pair of T-8th towards the end of 2024, plus had a runner-up at the John Deere Classic. On talent alone, he’s one of the better players as he hones his game at the biggest stages.
  3. Erik van Rooyen +6000 (was +8000): The two-time PGA Tour champion can be a very hit or miss player, but he’s second in ball striking the last twelve rounds at the Mexico Open at VidantaWorld, and he posted a T-8th at this championship a year ago.
