Right now is not the ideal time for the Dodgers to be playing a double-header, but that’s the hand they’ve been dealt on Tuesday. Los Angeles has been decimated by injuries to both its starting pitchers and relievers, and will have to get creative in their twin bill against the Diamondbacks.

LA remains the top contender in the World Series odds, despite all of its injured arms. Clayton Kershaw and Andrew Heaney are currently on the injured list, as are a long list of others. That’s forced Dave Roberts to roll with rookie Ryan Pepiot on Tuesday, who’ll make just his second career start.

Arizona will counter with left-hander Tyler Gilbert, who’ll make just his second start of the season. The 28-year-old has alternated between the bullpen and starting rotation over his two big league seasons, exceeding 5.1 innings on just one occasion.
He has little history against this Dodgers lineup, facing them just once during a 3 inning relief appearance last month. He allowed a run and two hits in that outing, highlighted by this Will Smith home run.

In Gilbert’s defense however, LA has beaten up nearly every pitcher they’ve faced in 2022. The Dodgers lead MLB in runs per game, while ranking second in slugging and OPS. They’ve crossed the plate at least six times in seven of their past 11 outings, and 15 times overall in 33 games.
