  • Off to the best MLB start in over 35 years, the Rays host the Red Sox on Tuesday, April 11th
  • Tampa are -204 moneyline favorites to run their perfect record to 11-0
  • Check out the Red Sox vs Rays odds, plus our best bet and prediction below

Don’t sleep on the Rays (10-0, 7-0 home). That’s the message this Tampa team is sending loud and clear after winning their 10th in row to start the season Monday night against the Red Sox (5-5, 3-1 away). These teams tango again at Tropicana Field on Tuesday, April 11th with the first pitch scheduled for 6:40 pm ET.

At the outset of the season, the Rays had the 3rd best division odds, behind the Yankees and the Blue Jays with the Red Sox way behind at +1500, just ahead of the Orioles. It’s still very early, but it would be hard to bet against Tampa now.

This game will be available on both NESN and Bally Sports Sun. You can find all the Red Sox vs Rays odds below, while we also offer up our best bet and pick for this game.

Red Sox vs Rays Odds

Team Moneyline Runline Total
Boston Red Sox +146 +1.5 (-154) O 7.5 (-111)
Tampa Bay Rays -204 -1.5 (+112) U 7.5 (-123)

A Brandon Lowe 8th inning solo homer was the deciding factor in a 1-0 Rays victory over Boston on Monday night.
The Rays pitching has been lights out this year sporting an ERA of 1.89 as a team. No other squad is even near allowing under two runs per game.

With another dominant starter on the hill for Tampa on Tuesday, the run total has been set at 7.5, while the Rays are heavy -204 favorites to keep their winning ways going.

Boston vs Tampa Bay Probable Pitchers

Boston gets a boost to their rotation with Garrett Whitlock returning from a hip injury that sidelined him to start the season. The 6’5, 225 pound righty made 31 appearances and nine starts for Boston last season. This year, the Red Sox hope to use him exclusively as a starter.

As a starter in 2022, Whitlock had a 4.15 ERA over 39 innings. He made his second minor-league rehab start last week and allowed just one run on one hit with eight strikeouts and one walk over six innings.

Whitlock vs McClanahan 2022 Stats

Garrett Whitlock
VS
Shane McClanahan
4-2 Record 12-8
3.45 ERA 2.54
1.02 WHIP 0.93
.222 OBA .194
5.47 SO/W Ratio 5.11

It’ll be another tough go around for the Red Sox bats when they face Shane McClanahan on Tuesday. Only 25-years old, the lefty really came into his own last season, going 12-8 with a 2.54 ERA and finishing 6th in Cy Young voting.

This season, it appears he picked up where he left off allowing just two earned runs in his first two starts this season. How good has the Rays pitching been? McClanahan’s 1.50 ERA currently pits him 3rd amongst Tampa starters. Still, at +1500, it might be a good idea to sprinkle some cash on him in the Cy Young Award odds.

Rays Keep Rolling

History is staring Tampa right in the eye after a 10-0 start. They are four wins away from breaking the major league record for the best start to a season, shared by the 1987 Brewers and the 1982 Atlanta Braves at 13-0.

While the pitching has been money, the bats have been just as good if not better for Tampa. The Rays currently lead the majors in runs per nine innings, team OPS and team home runs. Monday’s win over Boston was the first time all season they hadn’t beaten an opponent by at least four runs! Crazy stuff.

Although they opened the season against league minnows, the Tigers, Nationals and Athletics, the numbers Tampa have posted are wild. Sooner rather than later, they’ll be creeping up the table in the World Series odds after starting the season on the cusp of the top 10 contenders.

Red Sox vs Rays Pick

Give credit to Boston for at least keeping pace with Tampa on Monday, something that no other opponent has been able to do this year. Considering they’re going against one of Tampa’s best pitchers while their starter is making his season debut, it’s no wonder the Red Sox are big underdogs in the MLB odds.

Dealing with this sizzling Tampa squad is tough enough, but on top of everything, Boston lost their starting center fielder, Adam Duvall for the foreseeable future to a fractured wrist on the weekend. Things are just pointing in the direction of a Rays W here.

Taking everything into account, it’s impossible to bet against the Rays right now. Their streak will have to end some time, but we don’t see that happening in the Red Sox vs Rays odds on Tuesday, so take Tampa to win quite comfortably.

Pick: Tampa Bay Rays -1.5 (+112)
