The National League East-leading New York Mets visit the Miami Marlins at 6:40 pm ET Friday in the opener of a three-game series at loanDepot Park.

Taijuan Walker (5-2, 2.88) is scheduled to start for the Mets against Sandy Alcantara (7-2, 1.72). Walker will be pitching on five days of rest and Alcantara, the National League Cy Young odds favorite at +280, on four days.

Walker has won his last two starts, including against the Marlins last Saturday in New York. He gave up only one run and two hits in 6.2 innings while striking out nine and walking one.

Walker is 1-2 with a 3.97 ERA in his career against the Marlins in six games (five starts). He has pitched only once at loanDepot Park, taking the loss in a start last season when he surrendered four runs in 5.2 innings.

Alcantara has been outstanding over his last eight starts, compiling a 5-0 record and 0.99 ERA.

Alcantara beat the Mets in his last start Sunday at Citi Field when he worked eight innings and allowed two runs on six hits. He struck out eight and walked one.

In 11 career starts against the Mets, Alcantara is 3-4 with a 2.76 ERA.

He has a 4-1 record in night games this season with a 1.27 ERA in eight starts and is 4-1 with a 1.36 at home.

The Mets’ J.D. Davis is 4 for 10 (.400) with two doubles off Alcantara and Jeff McNeil is a .320 hitter (8 for 25) with one double and one home run. Eduardo Escobar, though, is 1 for 12 (.083) and Dominic Smith is 1 for 11 (.091).

The Mets got two hits each from Francisco Lindor and Luis Guillorme in Wednesday’s loss to the Astros. Lindor has +4000 NL MVP odds.

McNeil (right hamstring tightness) has a chance of returning to the lineup after the second baseman missed the last two games. Reliever Seth Lugo will be activated from the paternity list.
