Dylan Cease a Work in Progress
Dylan Cease makes his season debut with the White Sox. His 2020 season had some intriguing pitch quality but was a bit of a wild one, as he finished with a 5-4 record in 12 starts (4.01 ERA, 44 Ks) but had 34 walks in 58.1 innings. That was the worst in the American League. He expects to be the fourth starter in the Chicago White Sox rotation. Now, was this Spring Training a sign of progress?

Last season, he was a bit wild with 5.2 walks per nine innings while his K/9 dipped all the way to 6.8 from 10 in 2019. This spring was a different story as he ended his spring with a thunderous start.
Before you tell me it’s only Spring Training I’ll tell you that Dylan Cease was outstanding today. 5.1 innings 6 hits 1 run 11ks and 0 walks. Pretty impressive at any time. He has electric stuff and he looks like he’s learning how to use it. I think it’ll be a big year for Cease

Now he gets a matchup with Los Angeles, one of the league’s lighter-hitting teams in the American League last year. Cease does not have much of a track record against LA.

White Sox Offense Could Feel The Heat Too
On Sunday night, the Chicago White Sox take on Shohei Ohtani, who seems to have rediscovered his fastball (much-improved velocity) during Spring Training. The 26-year-old had an incredible 2018 campaign where he won the rookie of the year not just for his batting but for his pitching as well.
He expects to be a fourth or fifth starter for Los Angeles in 2021. There is a little bit of a concern with blisters but then again there is that slider and splitter to go with his fastball.

Ohtani looks to have a better command of his off-speed pitches. He has electric stuff, including a 100+ mph fastball, but injuries do concern many. He enjoyed a great 2018 and 2021 could prove to be an intriguing one.
More importantly, Joe Maddon will even let Ohtani hit and pitch in the same game for the first time in his career. The Japanese pitcher/batter will need to be monitored often. This will be the first time any of the current White Sox will have faced Ohtani as a pitcher.
Take the Angels
The White Sox had a tough time against Alex Cobb on Saturday but did scratch across three runs. Chicago’s bigger problem was their bullpen, which melted down in the eighth-inning allowing those three runs. The moneyline is at -120 for Los Angeles and expects to move a bit with 56% of the money placed on the Angels at press time.
The strange thing is Los Angeles did indeed score five runs and that was enough to win on Saturday. If Los Angeles can work Cease enough to impact his pitch count, the Angels can get to Chicago’s bullpen early. The Angels on the moneyline is my pick.
Pick: Los Angeles Angels ML (-120)
