Finally figuring out Alek Manoah, who has owned them in the past, the Yankees(24-19, 8-9 away) easily defeated the Blue Jays (24-17, 12-4 home) in their series opener on Monday. Owners of the second best home record in baseball, expect Toronto to come out with a much better effort in the second of this four game set on Tuesday, May 16th.
Another loss by Toronto and New York will tie them for third place in the best division in baseball. The Yankees were +119 favorites in the  Division odds before opening day, but are currently at +550 with both the Rays and Blue Jays owning shorter odds.
Opening pitch for this affair goes at 7:07 pm ET and will be broadcast on the YES Network as well as Sportsnet. We dish out all the Yankees vs Blue Jays odds below, while also offering up our best bet and picks for this contest.

New York (AL) vs Toronto Probable Pitchers
A month after getting dinged for two homers and four runs in six innings of work against the Blue Jays in the Bronx, Domingo German is hoping for revenge in Toronto. Ever since the calendar flipped to May, the Dominican native has been putting in much better outings.
In three starts this month, German has a 1.89 ERA and hasn’t allowed a single long ball. He gave up seven homers in his first five starts of the year. Keeping the ball in the park will be key to shutting down one of the best MLB starting lineups when he faces the Jays.
German vs Gausman Stats
2-3 | Record | 2-3 |
4.00 | ERA | 3.38 |
0.96 | WHIP | 1.10 |
.174 | OBA | .245 |
3.1 | SO/W Ratio | 9.6 |
It’s been a bit of a weird season for Kevin Gausman so far, but at +1200, he’s definitely a guy to consider placing some cash on in the Cy Young odds. When he’s good, he’s untouchable, but when he’s been bad, it’s been brutal.
In five of his eight starts this campaign, Gausman hasn’t allowed a single earned run, including his last appearance where he threw six scoreless against the Phillies, punching out nine. In his other three outings, the righty has allowed a brutal 18 earned runs.
He did shutdown the Yanks last month, throwing seven scoreless innings. Gausman has shown an amazing ability to whiff batters with pinpoint control. He leads the AL with 67 strikeouts while issuing only seven free passes for a ridiculous 9.6 strikeout to walk ratio.

Judge Destroys Blue Jays in Opener
Following a campaign where he surpassed Babe Ruth and Roger Maris for most home runs in a single season as a Yankee with 62, Aaron Judge got off to a bit of a slow start before being forced to the 10-day injured list.
That appears to be all behind him as he pushes his way closer to the Angels dynamic duo in the MVP odds. The Yanks slugger pounded two homers on Monday and reached base five times. He now has four bombs in his last three games.

Gausman will need to be extra aware of the Bronx Bombers tower of power who gives the Evil Empire a chance at victory in the MLB odds anytime he’s healthy and on the field.
Yankees vs Blue Jays Predictions
Slowly but surely, the Yankees have been climbing the ladder in the American League East where every team owns a record above .500. They’ve won five of their last seven, sweeping the Athletics then splitting a four-game set with the Tampa Bay Rays over the weekend, before coming to Toronto.
NYY vs TOR – Last 5 Games
Date | Home | Away | Score |
---|---|---|---|
05/15/23 | Blue Jays | Yankees | NYY, 7-4 |
04/23/23 | Yankees | Blue Jays | TOR, 5-1 |
04/22/23 | Yankees | Blue Jays | NYY, 3-2 |
04/21/23 | Yankees | Blue Jays | TOR, 6-1 |
09/28/22 | Blue Jays | Yankees | NYY, 8-3 |
It’s still very early in the year, but the Jays need to be careful about dropping too many games to division opponents. Prior to playing the Yankees, the last AL East foe they went against was the Red Sox, who swept the Bluebirds in four straight. Toronto has now lost five in a row to AL East rivals.
Over the last five games, these two pretty evenly matched squads have alternated wins and losses. With Gausman on the mound and playing at home where they’ve excelled this season, our prediction is that the Jays get one back in the MLB odds on Tuesday. For some extra dollars, we feel confident in taking them by two on the run line.
Pick: Toronto Blue Jays -1.5 (+115)
