Fight Record and Recent History

Darren Till (17-1-1) is coming off of his first professional loss at UFC 228 to Tyron Woodley for the welterweight title.

There, Till was simply dominated the entire fight and barely landed a single punch.

Before getting the title shot, Till had an impressive first-round knockout win over Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone which set up a main event fight against Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson in Liverpool, England. There, Till narrowly squeaked away a decision win which many believed Thompson won.

Jorge Masvidal is coming off of two losses in a row and hasn’t stepped foot in the Octagon since November 2017.

Jorge Masvidal (32-13), meanwhile, is coming off of two losses in a row and hasn’t stepped foot in the Octagon since November 2017. There he lost a decision to Thompson and before that lost a split-decision to Demian Maia. Ultimately, Masvidal has tons of experience and has fought some of the top names in the sport at both lightweight and welterweight.

There will be a huge size discrepancy in this fight as Till has talked about moving up to middleweight, as the cut down to welterweight is a hard one. But, after making championship weight easy in his last fight, Till decided to give it another go at welterweight as with Usman now the champion, the path to the title is easier.

While for Masvidal, he is a former lightweight who has only fought a handful of times at welterweight. The fight should be primarily striking where both have the ability to knock each other out, which should make for an exciting fight.

Ultimately, I think Till has the advantage because of his size and the fact that he is fighting in his home country.

Pick: Darren Till (-240)

Leon Edwards vs Gunnar Nelson Odds

Fighter Odds at Book 1 Odds at Book 2
Leon Edwards -155 -153
Gunnar Nelson +125 +133

Fight Record and Recent History

Leon Edwards (16-3) is fighting in his home country for just the fourth time under the UFC banner. He was last seen in the Octagon back in June where he was the main event in Singapore and came away with a decision win over Cerrone. The Englishman is riding a six-fight winning streak with notable wins over the likes of Vicente Luque and Bryan Barberena among others. A blemish on his record is against the current champion, Kamaru Usman, in which he lost the fight by decision.

Gunnar Nelson (17-3-1) is coming off of an impressive submission win over Alex “Cowboy” Oliveira at UFC 231 in December. He rallied back after losing round one, to showcase his world class ground and pound and jiu-jitsu which he will need to do in this fight as well. The win got him back on track after a knockout loss to Santiago Ponzinibbio before that. Nelson holds notables wins over the likes of Zak Cummings and Alan Jouban, among others.

If Leon Edwards is going to win this fight he has to keep the fight standing. Nelson holds a clear advantage on the ground with most of his wins coming by submission. However, if the fight stays standing, Edwards’ striking is exponentially better. Each round starts on the feet which is an advantage to Edwards and he has shown in the past he can stuff takedowns, but has been taken down before.

Nelson holds a clear advantage on the ground with most of his wins coming by submission.

If Nelson can get Edwards onto the ground and get a hold of his back for ground and pound or a submission attempt, it should be an easy night for Nelson. Ultimately, I don’t see that happening, and I see Edwards winning the fight by decision. However, there is value on Nelson as an underdog.

Pick: Leon Edwards (-153)
