Two of the NBA MVP favorites meet on Tuesday night when Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics (26-10, 13-4 away, 14-21-1 ATS) visit Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets (20-14, 10-6 home, 15-18-1 ATS) at Ball Arena at 8:10 pm MT/10:10 pm ET. Boston is at the tail-end of a four-game road trip and coming off a lopsided 105-92 loss at OKC on Sunday, but still heads into Denver as a sizable favorite in Tuesday’s NBA odds: the Celtics are listed as 5.5 or 6.0-point road chalk.

The Celtics still have an impressive win-loss record, sitting third in the NBA at 26-10. But the C’s are just 7-6 straight-up in their past 13 games and have the sixth-worst ATS record in the league at 14-21-1. They were outclassed by the West-leading OKC Thunder on Sunday (105-92). That was the first time all season Boston failed to reach at least 100 points.
Jayson Tatum (28.1 PPG, 9.4 RPG, 5.5 APG) had a team-high 26 in the loss, but Boston shot an ugly 36.5% from the floor, including an appalling 9-of-46 (19.6%) from beyond the arc.

Denver hasn’t been much better than Boston against the number at 15-18-1 ATS, and they’ve been stunningly mediocre on their home court (10-6 SU), but Nikola Jokic (31.5 PPG, 13.0 RPG, 9.7 APG) has been a man possessed the last couple weeks.
In his last five games, the 29-year-old three-time MVP is averaging 36.6 points, 15.0 rebounds, and 10.6 assists per game, with his Nuggets going 4-1 straight-up in that span. Last time out, Jokic dropped 46 points, 10 assists, and nine rebounds in a 122-111 OT win at the Spurs.

Denver forward Aaron Gordon (13.7 PPG, 5.8 RPG, 3.1 APG), who’s been out since Christmas, will miss his seventh straight game on Tuesday night with a calf injury.
This is one of the only times you will be able to bet on Jokic and the Nuggets as sizable underdogs on their home court. The Celtics are not the regular-season juggernaut they were last season, when the Nuggets took both games from the C’s anwyay, including a 115-109 victory at home on March 7, overcoming 41 points from Jaylen Brown.
