  • The NBA Draft goes down tonight with Darryn Peterson expected to be a top-two pick
  • Peterson was the favorite to go #1 in February, but has since been overtaken by AJ Dybantsa

The 2026 NBA Draft has long been a two-horse race for the honor of being the number one selection. For much of the college hoops season, Darryn Peterson and AJ Dybantsa flip-flopped back and forth atop the odds board, but as of early Tuesday afternoon, Dybansta has established himself as the clear favorite.

That checks out given which teams are picking first and second, and the roster needs of each. Peterson has been the most talked about prospect this year for a variety of reasons, so let’s dive into his Draft market props and see what value we can glean.

  • AJ Dybantsa to be #1 Overall Pick (88¢ at Kalshi)

Most of the NBA Draft props involving Peterson have efficiently bet into place, thus stripping away any real value. However, a winning ticket is still a winning ticket no matter how you look at it, and there’s no safer wager on the board than fading Peterson to go number one, and backing Dybansta.

The BYU product has been heavily linked to the Wizards in the NBA Draft odds for months, but is a virtual lock now that Washington signed Trae Young to a massive contract. That locks up the Wizards point guard situation for the next four years, and removed the need for Peterson who wants to grow into a franchise PG.

From the Washington perspective, teaming Dybantsa up with Young immediately reduces the offensive burden on the rookie’s shoulders. The Wizards can run the offense through Trae, and allow the number one pick to develop at his own speed.

Peterson’s skillset would effectively be redundant in Washington, while Dybantsa brings downhille scoring and elite athletic traits that no other wing on the Wiz’s roster can match.

Washington has yet to officially announce who their pick tonight will be, but this is a team starved for talent, and they can’t afford to pass on Dybantsa’s ceiling.

Darryn Peterson Yes to be #2 Overall Pick (71¢ at Kalshi)

There are two ways you can wager on Peterson to be the number two pick. You can either bet him to be selected second, or you can wager on which team will add him to their roster. The Jazz hold the second pick tonight, and although they’d love to bring in a home grown product like Dybantsa, they won’t pass on Peterson if and when the BYU product goes first.

You’re getting a slight discount to bet on Peterson being selected second instead of the Jazz taking him (71¢ vs 73¢), because of the slim chance that Utah trades away their pick. All signs point to that not happening however, as ESPN is reporting they will take whichever one of the top-two prospects is available when they pick.

Initially, there was some cold water on a potential Peterson-Jazz marriage, but that has reportedly been settled. Peterson met with the Jazz over the weekend, reflecting mutual interest. He and budding star Keyonte George could make up a formidable 1-2 punch for Utah, putting them in position to get back to the playoffs.

Peterson’s health has been discussed at length during the Draft process, but he’s reportedly been given a clean bill, and has the potential to be one of the league’s top scorers. That type of player has been missing from the Jazz roster for a long time, and they can’t afford to let him slip through their hands.

Darryn Peterson: Drafted under 2.5

Darryn Peterson Draft Position Under 2.5 (77¢ at Kalshi)

If you’re still not convinced that Peterson is going second, but want to capitalize regardless if he goes 1 or 2, you can always bet under 2.5 for his Draft position. The only threat to him in this market is Cameron Boozer kicking him out of the top-two, but that’s not a realistic option in my opinion.

I’m not here to throw shade at the former Duke star, but his ceiling is nowhere near as high as Peterson or Dybantsa, and his floor is lower. Despite dominating the collegiate game, Boozer will be undersized at his position in the NBA, and there are legit concerns about his perimeter defensive mobility.
