When it comes to Monday’s Pacers vs Pistons game, the injury report features more prominent names than the projected starting line-ups for both teams.

Online sportsbooks believe Indiana is more likely to overcome their long list of injured players than Detroit, as they pegged the Pacers as the road chalk in the NBA odds.

Pacers vs Pistons Betting Trends

This game is significantly more important for the Pacers (31-37, 12-21 away) than the Pistons (15-53, 8-27 home). Indiana began Sunday half a game back of a Play-In Tournament berth per the NBA playoff bracket, while Detroit was eliminated from postseason contention quite a long time ago.

The Pistons have suffered a season-worst 11 straight defeats, marking the third time this season they’ve been mired in a losing streak of at least five games.

The latest defeat came at the hands of the Pacers on Saturday, as Indiana squeaked out a 121-115 victory. Jalen Smith led the way with 20 points off the bench, while Andrew Nembhard and Isaiah Jackson each splashed 19.

Indiana played without its top-two scorers Tyrese Haliburton and Myles Turner, while their fourth leading scorer Bennedict Mathurin sat as well. Both Haliburton (knee) and Turner (back) will sit out Monday’s contest, while Mathurin (ankle) is questionable.

The victory was the Pacers first in the last five games that Haliburton has missed, and just the third in 14 games without their star guard this season. Indiana averages only 111 points sans Haliburton this season, four fewer than their season long mark.

Detroit meanwhile, got 18 points from Isaiah Livers and 17 points from Killian Hays, as they played without four regulars. Isaiah Stewart (hip), Bojan Bogdanovic (Achilles) and Jaden Ivey (health and safety) all sat, while Cade Cunningham (knee) is done for the season.

The Pistons were also without Alec Burks (foot) and Hamidou Diallo (ankle), and there’s a chance all six could sit again on Monday. If there was any question about Detroit possibly tanking for the number one overall pick, it seems like they’re answering it.

Despite the lack of bodies lately, the Pistons have managed to stay competitive in most games while still racking up losses. Their latest defeat to Indiana highlights that, as Detroit was arguably the better side.

Both teams shot 46% from the field, while the Pistons were more efficient from three. Detroit also racked up more assists and fewer turnovers, but couldn’t capitalize on their freebies. They missed nine of their 27 free throws and that was the difference between them covering and falling short. Indiana was favored by 3.5 points in that outing, and now the Pistons are getting an extra half point on Monday.

Pacers vs Pistons Predictions

There aren’t many winnable games left on the Pistons schedule. Of their remaining 14 contests, just two are versus teams not in the thick of some sort of postseason race.

The Pacers are without their top-two players, and potentially their fourth leading scorer as well. They’ve struggled badly without Haliburton this season and the absence of Turner leaves them vulnerable inside and on the glass.

Pacers Last 8 Road Games Without Haliburton

Opponent Result
Detroit Pistons W, 121-115
San Antonio Spurs L, 110-99
Memphis Grizzlies L, 112-110
Orlando Magic L, 126-120
Phoenix Suns L, 112-107
Denver Nuggets L, 134-111
OKC Thunder L, 126-106
Milwaukee Bucks L, 132-119

Detroit took advantage of that in their latest meeting, scoring 56 points in the paint. Look for them to find similar success down low on Monday, and finally end their 11-game skid.

Indiana is 1-7 in its last eight road tilts without Haliburton, with an average score differential of minus-12 points.

Pick: Detroit Pistons +4 (-110) and Moneyline (+150)
