The first half of Wednesday’s NBA Play-In Tournament doubleheader pits Orlando against Philadelphia in the East’s 7th vs 8th-place game. The winner will advance to the postseason, while the loser will still have one more chance in a battle against the Charlotte Hornets on Friday evening.

No 7th-place team has ever failed to qualify for the playoffs since the introduction of the Play-In Tournament five years ago, and online sportsbooks expect the Sixers to keep that streak alive, pegging them as 1.5-point favorites in the NBA odds.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm ET / 4:30 pm PT from Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia, PA. Amazon Prime will provide the broadcast across the country, with TSN handling Canadian TV duties.

• Magic Moneyline (+105 at BetMGM)

Both teams come into this contest with a relatively clean bill of health, with one major exception – Joel Embiid won’t be able to suit up, following appendectomy surgery. If he were available, the betting line would be far more slanted towards the home squad, but Philly will have to make due without their big man.

On the campaign, the Sixers were 24-14 when Embiid played, and 21-23 without their Center. In October, Philly won 136-124 without the big man against their counterparts, before being smoked 144-103 in November when they didn’t have his services. The only time he competed was in January, a 103-91 triumph. Him not taking part in this duel gives me an opening to grab the Magic with some value in the moneyline market.

Magic vs 76ers Odds

There really isn’t a whole of difference between these two combatants, not the least of which is their identical records: 45-37. Philly averaged 115.9 PPG, while Orlando was 115.7. In terms of D, the Magic were slightly better, allowing 115.1 PPG compared to 116.1.

Interestingly, though 63% of bets in the NBA public betting splits are on Philly to win outright, it’s an even 50/50 split on money wagered on the game.

• Desmond Bane Over 19.5 Points (-115 at bet365)

Moving over to the NBA props market, I’m selecting Desmond Bane to record at least 20 points in this one. That’s a number he’s been able to accomplish in five of his last six outings versus the 76ers. In games that he had a full workload (reduced minutes in his last two), Bane has notched the total in four of his last six affairs.
