Oregon State Has Nice Chance To Rebound

After making a ton of mistakes last week against Utah, the Oregon State Beavers have a nice chance to rebound at Stanford on Saturday night. The Beavers were in the game for a while against the Utes but gave up 21 points in the second half en route to a 42-16 defeat. It was a game where the score looked worse than the actual outcome. That being said, Oregon State is now 0-2 in the conference and looking for its first PAC-12 win too.

Maybe it was just a letdown after the tough loss to USC. Whatever it was, Jonathan Smith needs to snap his team out of this funk and quick.

Thankfully for Oregon State, Stanford’s defense is not in the same class of Utah’s. Better yet, the Cardinal may be one of the worst teams in the entire PAC-12. That being said, the Cardinal did lose by less than 20 points to three straight ranked opponents. This is while the Beavers threw four interceptions in all and now Chance Nolan may not play on Saturday. Both him and Ben Gudbranson just cannot seem to avoid miscues.

Also, it appears that Oregon State should just keep running. The Beavers have three running backs with 140+ yards and were enjoying success against Utah last week. Maybe, that is prudent.

Now, maybe firing the offensive coordinator is a bit extreme but Oregon State has had their issues with both quarterbacks this season. The defense was not that bad last week but faltered in the second half against Utah. They were bound to crack at some point.

The defense should be able to go at Stanford this week. This is a game that could get a little wild late but may be a defensive struggle early.

Stanford Just Wanting To Get Off To Better Starts

Head coach David Shaw should be under the microscope as his Stanford team has been consistent at doing three things. One is losing in the conference (0-3). The others are giving up 40+ points and scoring 20+ points. The Cardinal have accomplished those three straight times. Maybe, Stanford possesses a better chance of snapping that streak against Oregon State.

Yes, the Cardinal must get off to better starts. This is a team that went down 31-3 to Oregon before responding in the second half. Oregon State has had problems turning the ball over but Stanford is even worse with a -11 turnover margin. The defense has generated a mere two turnovers and will not have Kyu Blu Kelly, their best secondary player Saturday.

Therefore, none of that matters if the Cardinal cannot find a way to win the turnover battle and take advantage of opportunities. Getting off to better starts would alleviate their problems and maybe win a conference game.

Stanford’s preseason NCAAF win total of 4.5 is shaky. The under may connect.

Oregon State vs Stanford Prediction

Most pundits have Oregon State in the middle of the conference with Stanford close to the bottom.

Honestly, it does not feel like either team can run away with this game so it may just stay close.

Oregon State laying seven points with a questionable quarterback is not a good idea. Stanford, the points, and the under are good bets.

Picks: Stanford +7 (-110), Under 56.5 (-110)
