Ewers posted tremendous high-school stats but has never started a game in college, leaving sportsbooks divided on how to price him in the Heisman odds. Some sportsbooks have him as short as +2000, while others have him as long as +5000.

Quinn Ewers 2022 Betting Outlook
Texas second-year coach Steve Sarkisian officially named Quinn Ewerers’ the Longhorns’ starting quarterback on Friday, August 19th. Ewers won the job over sophomore Hudson Card, who began the 2021 season as UT’s starter before losing the gig to Casey Thompson.
Ewers will make his first collegiate start in Week 1 versus Louisana-Monroe. The Longhorns are favored by 38.5 points over the Warhawks in Austin on Saturday, September 3rd. This should be a great warmup for Ewers before he’s thrown into the fire against Alabama in Week 2.

Ewers, who was the No. 1 overall recruit in the 2021 class according to the 247Sports Composite, is a tremendously talented pro-style QB with dual-threat ability. In his final high school season as a junior, Ewers threw for 2,442 yards and 28 TDs with only five picks (8GP).
The main concern around Ewers revolves around the adjustment from high school to college. Ewers has taken a long and winding path to Austin, including a stint at Ohio State, which has led to him not throwing a pass in a live game since 2020.
Are Longhorns Good Enough?
Even if Ewers lives up to all the offseason hype, are the Longhorns talented enough to put their QB in the Heisman race? Time and time again we’ve seen Heisman candidates lose their shot at the trophy due to their teams picking up one too many losses.
Texas is coming off a 5-7 season that included a six-game losing streak, which is partly why sportsbooks aren’t in agreement on Ewers’ Heisman odds. The Longhorns had one of the worst defenses in the Big 12 last season, allowing 425.6 yards of offense per game.

It’s not surprising to see Ewers as a Heisman longshot entering the season. The Longhorns weren’t even ranked in the first AP poll, and they are +5000 in the latest CFP National Championship odds.
Texas’ offense is likely going to have to bail out their defense at times this season, which is certainly possible given some of their weapons. The Longhorns boast one of college football’s most explosive running backs in Bijan Robinson, who racked up over 1,000 yards in 2021.
Ewers’ top two receiving targets in 2022 are projected to be Xavier Worthy and Jordan Whittington. Worthy showcased his talent last season by setting the UT freshman record for receiving yards (918), while Whittington has battled injuries but proven to be dynamic when healthy.
How to Bet Quinn Ewers for Heisman
Given the question marks around Texas’ defense, plus Ewers’ lack of experience, you have to be careful betting the five-star for the Heisman. He has the talent to be worth a preseason flier, but you want to make sure you’re getting the best value.

FanDuel is the sportsbook that’s offering the longest odds (+5000) on Ewers winning the Heisman. A $10 bet on Ewers to win the Heisman at FanDuel would payout $510 if he takes home the MVP award. That’s far better value than the sportsbooks that are offering him around +3500.
Whether you decide to bet Ewers for the Heisman or fade him in the odds, it’s best to make your decision soon. For better or worse, Ewers’ Heisman odds are going to be on the move following his huge Week 2 matchup against Alabama.
