After a thrilling start to the season, Colorado officially faces some adversity for the first time in the Deion era, getting their doors blown off by Oregon to the score of 42-6 last week. This was a game, by the way, that Oregon led 35-0 at halftime, and probably could have scored close to triple-digit points if they really wanted to. Unsurprisingly, Colorado is no longer ranked after that game.

USC, meanwhile, has had an easy schedule to start the year but have been beating the snot out of every team they’ve played so far. Last week’s 14-point victory over Arizona State was the closest game USC has played in all year.

Will Colorado be able to redeem themselves and keep this game somewhat close? Well, let’s get into it.

USC vs Colorado Odds

Team Spread Moneyline Total
USC Trojans -21.5 -1450 O 72.5 (-110)
Colorado Buffaloes +21.5 +810 U 72.5 (-110)

Clearly, the bookmakers are expecting this game to be another blowout, as USC is currently 21.5-point favorites over Colorado, with the high over/under of 72.5. This game will be played at Colorado on Saturday, September 30th at 12:00 P.M. ET. FOX will have the broadcast.

Can Colorado Keep it Competitive?

After an electric 3-0 start, there was a ton of intrigue surrounding this Colorado football team, naturally, as they are coached by NFL legend Deion Sanders and were heading into a big matchup against the Oregon Ducks. Well, the Ducks entered that game clearly motivated to show the world that they are on a different level than the Buffaloes, and they proved that point quickly.

Before anybody had the chance to blink, the Ducks raced out to a 35-point halftime lead, going up 42-0 before Colorado scored a sad touchdown in the final seconds of the game to avoid the shutout, losing 42-6. One week later, Colorado faces another stiff test, this time against a USC team that is 4-0 while averaging 55 points per game.

Colorado QB Shadeur Sanders had his first rough start of the year, going 23-33 for 159 yards and the one garbage time touchdown, while also getting sacked 7 times. Player props aren’t out for this game as of the time of this writing, but it will be interesting to see how the books price his passing yards o/u after last week’s shellacking.

It was clear the Oregon head coach Dan Lanning wanted to send a message to the college football universe by blowing out Colorado without showing any mercy, and it’s likely USC will look to follow suit.

USC Stays Hot

USC QB Caleb Williams entered the season as the favorite to win the Heisman, and is currently the second-favorite to Michael Penix despite having a phenomenal start to the season. As mentioned earlier, the USC offense averages 55 points per game.

Overall, Williams averages a 75% completion %, with 1200 passing yards and 15 passing touchdowns, while also adding 3 touchdowns on the ground for good measure.

The Colorado defense, by the way, is allowing over 500 yards of total offense and 44.5 points per game. FanDuel currently prices USC’s team total at 48.5, which they’ve hit in 3 of 4 games so far this year, and it’s hard to imagine the Colorado defense putting up much resistance.

In terms of player props, I would look to target Caleb Williams passing touchdowns over as soon as props get posted, as he should be going bombs away against an overmatched Colorado defense.

USC vs Colorado Prediction

It was a fun start for Colorado, but it’s looking like they are coming down to earth after last week’s loss to Oregon, and I expect the same to continue this week against USC.

The guess here is that USC is going to score early and often against Colorado’s hapless defense, and cover this spread with about as much ease as Oregon did last week. The only reason why I am staying away from USC’s team total is in the event of another blowout and they let their foot off the gas to end the game.

  • Pick: USC -21.5 (-114)
