The Cincinnati Bengals are business.

On Sunday, they dispatched the Cleveland Browns 23-10 to claim their fifth straight win, keeping them in the AFC North odds mix with the Baltimore Ravens, who also won Sunday. Both teams sit at 9-4 this year.

With the win, the Bengals watched their title odds shorten from +1200 entering the week, to +1000 with just four games left in the regular season.

From a team that started out 0-2 to the year, and had their 2023 Super Bowl odds as distant as +3200 during the regular season, Cincy is on the verge of clinching postseason play — a great chance to take advantage of the launch of Ohio sports betting, which is set to go live January 1, 2023.

It’s a different path for the other Ohio-based squad, as Cleveland’s loss puts them at 5-8, and they’ll need to run the table, and still get help if they want to see the playoffs.

There are currently five teams they’d need to leapfrog, including the New York Jets, who hold the final Wild Card spot.

Bengals Bury Browns

So much for Joe Burrow’s struggles against Cleveland. The Bengals’ pivot got his first win against the Browns, snapping the team’s 5-game skid to their in-state rivals.

Burrow showed that, even with the team not close to 100%, he’s the key to a return trip to the Super Bowl.

Losing receivers Tyler Boyd (dislocated finger) and Tee Higgins (hamstring) to injury very early in the game, the Bengals’ offense struggled to put together drives early.

That changed as Burrow adapted on the fly, finishing with 18-for-33 for 239 yards and two touchdowns against one interception, while also running for a major.

Joe Cool fed top target Ja’Marr Chase early and often, as Chase had 10 catches for 119 yards and a touchdown. Burrow also connected on a nifty flea flicker, hitting a wide-open Trenton Irwin for a 45-yard score.

Defensively, the Bengals contained Deshaun Watson, limiting him to 276 yards passing, with one TD and an interception. The 10 points surrendered is the low total for the Bengals this season.

Cincinnati Betting Outlook

If there is any concern for the Bengals going forward, it’s the tough schedule coming home, which features three division leaders and just one team with a losing record.

It starts next week against the NFC South-leading Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who were dismantled by the 49ers in Week 14. They’ll next have to play a Patriots’ side fighting for its playoff life, followed by the AFC East-leading Bills, who will likely still be fighting for top seed in the conference.

After all of that, they will meet the Ravens to close out the year. Baltimore currently holds the AFC North lead by virtue of a 19-17 head-to-head win in Week 5.

Odds to Win the AFC North

Team Odds
Baltimore Ravens -140
Cincinnati Bengals +110

Baltimore actually has a much softer schedule coming home, as they play the Browns, Falcons and Steelers — three teams that are a combined nine games under .500, and none currently with more than five wins.

However, the Ravens are hurting in the pocket. Lamar Jackson missed Week 14 with a sprained PCL, and there are rumblings he may be out another week, with Christmas eve vs Atlanta the current target return.

They’re also down backup Tyler Huntley, who left the game for concussion protocol. The depth chart currently reads undrafted rookie Anthony Brown, and that’s it.

If either Jackson or Huntley’s injuries linger, you have to like the Bengals at plus-odds to take the North, and to take that head-to-head at the end of the year.

Is Cincinnati Worth a Super Bowl Wager?

The Bengals feature the sixth-best scoring offense and third best passing unit in the NFL, and while it’s early to try to place Burrow in the Patrick Mahomes-Josh Allen stratosphere, he’s clearly one of the three best QB’s in the AFC.

If their defense can stay at about average (20.4 points per game allowed, 11th), this team definitely is worth a throwing a couple of dollars on at this current figure.
