  • The Los Angeles Chargers are the +200 favorites to be the next team that Bill Belichick coaches if the New England Patriots opt to fire him
  • New England keeping Belichick is the +300 second betting choice
  • There’s even an option to wager on him not coaching at all next season at odds of +600

As of today, Bill Belichick is still the head coach of the New England Patriots. Following a career-worst 4-13 season, is that situation about to change? DraftKings has released a prop for Belichick’s next team odds for 2024.

Belichick is indicating that he and Patriots owner Robert Kraft, who met Monday, have several more meetings planned in the immediate future. Generally, when NFL coaches are fired, the axe falls on what’s known as Black Monday – the first day following the conclusion of the regular season.

That Belichick is still on the job isn’t deterring oddsmakers from setting a betting line on which NFL team Belichick will coach next.

The Los Angeles Chargers are +200 favorites to land the six-time Super Bowl winner as their next coach. However, hedging your bet is an available option. The Patriots are the +300 second betting choice to maintain Belichick’s services.

It’s even possible to wager on Belichick not coaching any team next season. That betting line is set at +550.

Chargers Offer Belichick Intriguing Talent Pool

There is interest in Belichick from the Los Angeles Chargers. However, they’re only interested if there’s no strings attached. They won’t trade for Belichick’s rights.

It makes sense from LA’s point of view. A franchise adrift and in need of a culture change, Belichick’s iron fist rule might be just what the doctor ordered.

From Belichick’s point of view, he’d inherit a deep talent pool that includes QB Justin Herbert, RB Austin Ekeler, WR Keenan Allen and EDGE Joey Bosa.

Falcons a Franchise In Disarray

Following three consecutive 7-10 seasons, Atlanta jettisoned head coach Arthur Smith. After going with a new face in Smith, moving to an experienced, steady hand like Belichick makes sense as a transition. Atlanta is definitely a team in need of someone in charge who is capable of getting everyone on the same page.

Certainly, there’s interest in Belichick from Falcons owner Arthur Blank. Blank is the type of owner cut from the same mold as Kraft. He’d likely be willing to let Belichick run the whole show. This fit just might work for both sides.

Could Commanders Take Command?

From Joe Gibbs all the way back to George Allen, Washington is a franchise that’s enjoyed its biggest success under the watch of an experienced coach with a winning resume. But as much as Belichick fits this mold, it seems unlikely the Commanders are a fit for him.

Washington is in the midst of a rebuild and at 71, does Belichick want to be in that mode? The Commanders are probably more interested in a younger model at this stage of the team’s development.

Might Belichick Remain Patriots Coach?

The one question that leaves all of this speculation in doubt is if the Patriots were planning to fire Belichick, what are they waiting for?

To be frank, this is the Patriots way. They are very methodical in how they work. They don’t make emotional decisions.

Legendary Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski indicated earlier this week that he’d be absolutely stunned if Belichick isn’t still coach of the team next season.

That being, former Patriots LB Mike Vrabel is suddenly available after Tennessee fired him. And New England LB coach and rumored Belichick successor Jerod Mayo is going to get offers to go elsewhere this offseason.

If this isn’t the time for the Patriots and Belichick to part ways, when will it make more sense?
