  • The Dallas Cowboys beat the Washington Redskins 31-21 in Week 2
  • The Philadelphia Eagles lost 24-20 at Atlanta in Week 2 while also losing a bevy of players to injury
  • The Dallas Cowboys have a schedule that should allow them to start 7-1 or 8-0

The Dallas Cowboys again looked impressive in Week 2 as they disposed of the Washington Redskins 31-21.

With the Philadelphia Eagles losing on Sunday and the other two teams in the division still failing to register a single win, the Cowboys are now the favorite in the East, according to the NFL Divisional odds. Are they a good bet?

New York Giants +5000

Cowboys Beat Redskins In Washington

The Cowboys had a bit of a fight with the Redskins early but by the end of the day, were in complete control of their Week 2 contest. By the third quarter, they held a double-digit lead and didn’t look back.

Quarterback Dak Prescott was again impressive as he finished 26-of-30 for 269 yards, three touchdowns and an interception while adding another 69 yards on the ground. With Ezekiel Elliott coming to life with 111 yards and a touchdown, the Cowboys really didn’t have many issues.

While the defense did give up 21 points, which was a tad surprising against such a lifeless offense, they only gave up 255 yards of offense in the game. The Redskins first scoring drive was just 38 yards and they also scored a touchdown in garbage time, so Dallas’ defense has nothing to worry about.

Eagles, Giants Lose

While the Cowboys got the win on Sunday, the Philadelphia Eagles took a loss on Sunday Night Football. The New York Giants also lost on Sunday, making it two in a row for them.

The Eagles are the Cowboys biggest challenger for the top spot in the division but now the Cowboys have the upper hand. Philadelphia came up short in Atlanta where the Falcons barely edged them 24-20.

Of greater concern for the Eagles is the number of injuries they suffered. Pro Bowl center Travis Kelce was in and out of the game with what appeared to be a concussion issue. The team also lost wide receivers Alshon Jeffery and DeSean Jackson. Quarterback Carson Wentz stayed in the game but took a beating.

For a second straight week, the Eagles were sloppy for about a half’s worth of action and good in the other half. We haven’t seen a full effort from them just yet as they’ve been uneven. With the Cowboys facing a soft schedule coming up, the Eagles are already behind the count and are trailing to catch up in the divisional race.

What’s The Best Bet?

Now is, in fact, a good time to bet the Cowboys to win the division. They have a really soft schedule coming up and they should gain a head of steam. They’ll beat Miami next week and then should be favored against the Saints, who will be without Drew Brees.

Afte that are manageable games against Green Bay and the New York Jets, while the back end of the schedule looks more difficult for the Cowboys but given their upcoming stretch, their odds are going to keep shortening.

As for the Eagles, four of their next six games are on the road. They might have a hard time catching Dallas for the division if the Cowboys are 7-1 or 8-0 after eight weeks. Bet the Cowboys.
