The 2024 NFL season is in full swing, and as we head into Week 3, it’s time to analyze the upcoming player props. Sportsbooks will soon release their NFL player props for Week 3, and I’ve identified several enticing opportunities.

One standout prop for Week 3 comes from the Carolina Panthers vs New Orleans Saints matchup, where I anticipate Chuba Hubbard to have a productive day against the Saints’ vulnerable run defense. Additionally, the Dallas Cowboys’ tight end situation presents an intriguing opportunity with Jake Schoonmaker potentially stepping up.

Let’s explore the early NFL player props I’m targeting for Week 3 in more detail.

NFL Week 3 Player Props to Target

Player (Team) Prop
Chuba Hubbard (CAR) Over Rushing + Receiving Yards
Quentin Johnston (LAC) Under Receiving Yards
Jake Schoonmaker (DAL) Over Receiving Yards

Chuba Hubbard Rushing + Receiving Yards

I’m looking to back Carolina Panthers running back Chuba Hubbard rushing + receiving yards over in NFL Week 3. The 25-year-old is primed to take another step forward after carrying the ball 10 times for 64 yards against the Chargers in Week 2.

Hubbard was able to average an impressive 6.4 yards per carry against LA’s elite defense, which is notable when you consider LA dominated the game. Hubbard now faces one of the worst rushing defenses in the NFL in the Saints, who are giving up over 6.1 yards per carry.

A key reason I’m targeting this Chuba Hubbard prop, however, is the passing game. He caught four out of five targets for an additional 12 yards Sunday, and now the Panthers are making the change from Bryce Young to Andy Dalton at quarterback.

In his lone start with the Panthers last season, Dalton threw the ball 58 times for 361 yards and two touchdowns. I expect Hubbard to have a strong day on the ground in addition to seeing more production as a pass catcher. Look for him to cash the over on his receiving + rushing prop.

Quentin Johnston Receiving Yards

One player I’m looking to fade in NFL Week 3 is LA Chargers wide receiver Quentin Johnston. The 23-year-old is coming off a breakout performance against the Panthers in which he caught five passes on six targets for 51 yards and two touchdowns.

I expect his player props to be overvalued in Week 3 based on what he accomplished against one of the worst teams in football. Last season, Johnston caught just 38 of 67 targets (56.7%) and surpassed 30 yards on only four occasions.

The Chargers now face the Steelers in Week 3, with Pittsburgh a 2.5-point favorite in the Week 3 NFL odds. The Steelers passing defense has only allowed 401 yards through the air in two games, with opposing QBs completing 59% of their passes.

LA is already leaning heavily on the run game under Jim Harbaugh, and I don’t expect things to change against an elite Pitt defense. This game has one of the lowest totals on the board, and one way we can extract value is by targeting the under on a player who overperformed the previous week.

Jake Schoonmaker Receiving Yards

Another NFL player prop I’m targeting for Week 3 is the “over” on the receiving yards total for Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Schoonmaker. The 25-year-old from Connecticut should see an increased role in Week 3 vs. the Ravens following Jake Ferguson’s injury.

Schoonmaker had a breakout game in Week 2 against the Saints, hauling in six passes for 43 receiving yards, including 7.2 yards per catch. The latest Ferguson injury update is that “everything looks good” but Jerry Jones wants to see how he looks in practice.

This is a situation where I’ll be monitoring the NFL injury news and then hitting Ferguson’s receiving prop if his injury updates aren’t trending in the right direction. I like the matchup for the Cowboys’ tight ends this week facing a Ravens defense that has given up 208 yards to that position group through two games.

Even if Ferguson does return to the lineup, I think Schoonmaker will be worth a look, as Dallas won’t want to rush their star’s workload.
