Jets Barely Competitive

There are some bad teams in the NFL who have disappointing records due to blown leads or bad luck. For the Jets, their record accurately depicts the state of the franchise as at 0-8, they haven’t been competitive this season. They’re fresh off a 35-9 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, which marked the third time in the last four weeks that they’ve lost by 20 or more.

Compounding their problems for Monday’s affair is that quarterback Sam Darnold looks like he’ll miss the game. He’s doubtful with a shoulder injury and if he can’t play, Joe Flacco would be under center. Flacco has made two starts this season, completing just 51.9% of his passes for 198.5 yards per game. His paltry 41.6 QBR foreshadows a rough night for the offense.

Patriots Have Lost Four Straight

For the first time since 2002, the Patriots are riding a four-game losing streak. Clearly, moving on from Tom Brady hasn’t been the right decision for this team as they have struggled mightily on offense. The Patriots have a total of 49 points scored over their last four contests, which boils down to just 12.3 points per game.

Not much is working for this unit as they can’t score points, they can’t sustain drives and they’re putting their defense in bad position. The Pats are just 23rd in third-down conversions and are 30th in pass offense. The running game actually ranks third in the NFL but most of that is Cam Newton. He leads the team with 298 rushing yards.

The good news for the Patriots is that as bad as they’ve been, this Monday Night Football matchup looks like a softball. This figures to be a great opportunity for them to get back in the win column.

What’s The Best Bet?

The value has been sucked out of this line but the Patriots have to be the bet here. The Jets just look like a team that’s pulse-less and now they’re in an even tougher spot with Flacco under center. This team is just counting the days until head coach Adam Gase is fired.

The challenge here is that the Patriots are a run-oriented team and if there’s one thing the Jets do somewhat well, it’s stop the run. They are giving up 4.1 yards per carry this season, which is 10th-best. They are much more vulnerable against the pass where they are ranked 29th.

Look for the under to hit in this game as we have two shaky offenses and two defenses that probably won’t be too overmatched. It won’t be an entertaining affair as these teams should end up with a final score that reflects a low-scoring game.

Prediction: Under 40.5 (-105)
