NFL Week 13 Opening Lines and Spreads

• The opening lines have been posted for Week 13 of the NFL season

Thanksgiving weekend is nearly behind us and that means the NFL playoff chase will really being heating up.

The opening lines have been released for Week 13, Let’s take a look at the latest NFL odds.

Chiefs Heavy Favorites

Fresh off a road win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday and facing a team with severe quarterback issues, the Kansas City Chiefs have opened as 13.5-point favorites at home over the Denver Broncos.

Though the Chiefs (10-1) did not quite cover the 3.5-point spread by beating Tom Brady and the Buccaneers 27-24, Patrick Mahomes passed for 462 yards and three touchdowns as Kansas City won its sixth straight game.

Tyreek Hill had 13 receptions for 269 yards. He caught each of Mahomes’ three TD throws with the plays covering 75, 44 and 20 yards.

With all four quarterbacks sidelined for failing to wear masks as mandated by the NFL’s COVID-19 protocols, the Broncos were blasted at home by the New Orleans Saints 31-3 as 17-point underdogs.

Denver was forced to start practice squad wide receiver Kendall Hinton at QB. A former quarterback at Wake Forest, Hinton completed only one of nine passes for 13 yards with two interceptions.

2.5: The Popular Number

Three different games have opened at 2.5, which is the lowest number on the board.

Those games include the Indianapolis Colts (7-4) on the road against the Houston Texans (4-7), the Los Angeles Rams (7-4) on the road against the Arizona Cardinals (6-5) and the Los Angeles Chargers (3-8) at home against the New England Patriots (5-6).

The Colts lost to the Tennessee Titans 45-26 at home Sunday in a showdown for first place in the AFC South. Running back Derrick Henry burned Indianapolis, which was a three-point choice and entered second in the NFL in yards allowed,, for 178 rushing yards and three touchdowns. The Texans beat the Detroit Lions 41-25 on the road Thursday.

The Rams and Cardinals both lost Sunday, Los Angeles to the San Francisco 49ers 23-20 at home and Arizona to the New England Patriots 20-17 on the road. The Chargers lost 27-17 to the Bills in Buffalo.

Low Number for Backup QBs

The over/under for the Cincinnati Bengals’ game at Miami Dolphins is the lowest of the week at 42.5

Both teams are using their backup quarterback with Ryan Fitzpatrick taking Tua Tagovailoa’s spot with the Dolphins and Brandon Allen replacing Joe Burrow for the Bengals.

Fitzpatrick led the Jets to a 20-3 road victory over the winless New York Jets Sunday. However, the Bengals lost 19-17 to the visiting New York Giants.

The highest totals are 52.5 points for Colts-Texans and Cleveland Browns-at-Tennessee Titans.

As mentioned above, the Titans and Colts combined for 75 points Sunday and the Texans dropped 41 on the Lions on Thanksgiving. The Browns beat the host Jacksonville Jaguars 27-25 on Sunday.

Saints Ripe For Fading

One line that seems a little out of whack is the Saints being a 6.5-point favorite against the Falcons at Atlanta.

While the Saints (9-2) have won eight in a row and throttled the Broncos on Sunday, the Falcons (4-7) beat up on the visiting Oakland Raiders 43-6 on Sunday.

Though the Saints beat the Falcons 24-9 at New Orleans in Week 11, look for them to get faded a bit this week.

The Bills being a three-point neutral-site favorite over the 49ers in Phoenix on Monday Night Football also seems a big high. While San Francisco has had its injury problems, it is starting to get healthy and looked good Sunday in their road upset of the Rams.

The 49ers also can’t play at home at Levi’s Stadium after Santa Clara County enacted a three-week ban Saturday on all contact sports.
