  • Down 2-0, the Leafs travel to Florida looking to get one back from the Panthers on Sunday, May 7th
  • The Maple Leafs are -134 moneyline favorites on the road, where they are 3-0 this postseason

The Toronto Maple Leafs have entered must-win territory as they get set for a Game 3 matchup with the Panthers on Sunday, May 7th in Sunrise, Florida. Down 2-0 in their best-of-7 series, it won’t be lights out for Toronto if they lose Game 3, but only four out of 198 teams that have trailed 3-0 have mounted a comeback.

Getting out of Toronto might be the best recipe for success for Toronto. They are a perfect 3-0 on the road this postseason, but a pitiful 1-4 at home. Faceoff for Game 3 between the Maple Leafs and Panthers is scheduled for 6:30 pm ET with TBS, CBC and Sportsnet providing broadcast coverage.

Below, we provide all the Panthers vs Maple Leafs odds as well as our best bet and prediction for this crucial contest. We’ll also offer up a same-game parlay for those of you looking for a bigger payout.

Maple Leafs vs Panthers Game 3 Odds

Game Time (ET) Team Puck Line Total Moneyline
Sunday, May 7th Toronto Maple Leafs -1.5 (+168) O 6.5 (-134) -134
6:30 pm Florida Panthers +1.5 (-205) U 6.5 (+110) +112

Sportsbooks seem to feel Toronto will be at their most desperate, as the Leafs are -134 moneyline favorites in Game 3, even though they’ll be facing the same goalie who has absolutely stoned them in the first two games.

Once again, the over/under total is set at 6.5 goals with these teams coming under that mark in each of the first two games. Prior to this series, the Leafs and Panthers had combined to go over the betting line in nine of their 13 playoff games.

Bob’s Your Uncle…Or Your Daddy

Remember all those years ago when three-time Cy Young award winner Pedro Martinez tipped his cap to the Yankees by declaring them “his daddies?” That might sum up how the Maple Leafs are feeling about the revitalized Sergei Bobrovsky right about now.

Florida’s goalkeeper has been nothing short of outstanding in the first two games of this series, stopping 69 of 73 shots for a .945 save percentage. He’s won five contests in a row and appears to be getting better with each passing game.

Samsonov vs Bobrovsky Playoff Stats

Team Goalie Record SV% GAA
Toronto Maple Leafs Ilya Samsonov 4-4 .895 3.27
Florida Panthers Sergei Bobrovsky 5-1 .908 3.33

Before this series started, “Bob” had -0.2 goals saved above expected. With a tremendous first two outings against Toronto, he now has 5.7 goals saved above expected, the second-best mark of any goaltender this postseason. He might also be getting into the head of his comrade at the opposite end of the rink.

At the beginning of the second round, the Panthers had the longest Stanley Cup odds of any team still alive at +6500, but those odds have been shortening by the day thanks mostly to their netminder.

Leafs Face Must Win Scenario

It’s a bad time for your superstars to stop scoring. If the Leafs want to have any chance of advancing to the next stage of the NHL Playoff Bracket, it’s up to their core four up front to start producing. Not one of Auston Matthews, John Tavares, Mitch Marner or William Nylander has buried this series.

Maple Leafs Big Money Forward Playoff Stats

Player Cap Hit Games 1-4 Games 5-8
Auston Matthews $11,640,250 3 G, 4 A, 7 Pts 2 G, 2 A, 4 Pts
John Tavares $11,000,000 3 G, 1 A, 4 Pts 1 G, 2 A, 3 Pts
Mitch Marner $10,903,000 2 G, 8 A, 10 Pts 0 G, 2 A, 2 Pts
William Nylander $6,962,366 2 G, 5 A, 7 Pts 0 G, 0 A, 0 Pts

Although he was their best player last game, Nylander has now gone four straight without getting on the scoresheet. The four players above account for almost $40 million dollars against the salary cap and if they don’t find a way to beat Bobrovsky, the Leafs have no chance of winning this series.

One source of optimism for Toronto is that they’re playing in Florida, where they are a perfect 3-0 in the playoffs. On the other hand, the Panthers hold a 1-2 mark at FLA Live Arena this postseason. Getting away from the hockey-mad city of Toronto might actually benefit the Leafs.

Maple Leafs vs Panthers Prediction

With their backs against the wall, online sportsbooks have made the Buds the chalk in the NHL odds, despite Bobrovsky stymying them up to this point.

Just like Game 2, I’d expect the Leafs to come out flying, although that may open them up to counter opportunities at the other end. It was 2-1 Toronto after the first in Game 2, and we should see a similar output in scoring in the first game in Florida.

Maple Leafs vs Panthers Same-Game Parlay Picks

Pick Odds
Toronto Maple Leafs Moneyline -134
Over 1.5 First Period Goals -150
Parlay Odds +179

If you look back at the first two games of this series, you have to tip your hat to the Leafs as the better squad, especially in Game 2. They know everything is on the line here and despite their lack of recent playoff success, they have forced every series they lost over the last seven years to a deciding game, so we don’t see them going down without a fight.

Our prediction is that the Leafs do enough to overcome Bobrovsky’s spell on them and win Game 3 on Sunday evening.

Pick: Toronto Maple Leafs Moneyline (-134)
