The Toronto-Florida Stanley Cup playoff series has already been a headbanger, and Game 2 is Wednesday night at Scotiabank Arena.
Florida (39-49 ATS) has won four of the last six meetings against Toronto (46-43), and three of the last four games have hit the under.
There are some questions about Toronto’s starting goalie for Game 2, but we have all the answers with my prediction and guide to the best odds.
Panthers vs Leafs Starting Goalies
This series has already made headlines after Toronto No. 1 goalie Anthony Stolarz was elbowed in the head by Panthers forward Sam Bennett in Game 1 and had to leave the contest. There was no penalty called, but the Leafs were upset by what they thought was a cheap shot.
Of course, this being the hockey playoffs, no one from Toronto is saying anything about the injury, but Stolarz was likely concussed by the blow.
Anthony Stolarz or Joseph Woll, Toronto
I’m thinking it will be Woll for the Leafs in goal tonight. He stopped 17 of 20 shots in the Game 1 win. He’s no ordinary back-up goalie. Woll has playoff experience and filled in for a big chunk of the season when Stolarz was injured.
Woll had a career-high 27 wins this season, but did lose to the Panthers 3-1 in January, allowing two goals on 22 shots. His 2.73 goals against average and .909 save percentage are above average.
Sergei Bobrovsky, Florida
Big Game Bob did not have a great start to this series, allowing a goal 33 seconds in, and allowing five goals on 30 shots. It’s just the third time in his career Bobrovsky allowed five goals in a playoff game.
In his career, Bobrovsky is 21-12 against Toronto. This season, Bobrovsky allowed 2.44 a game, lower than his career average.
Panthers vs Leafs Game 2 Prediction
- Leafs Moneyline (+118)
Toronto has won their last eight home games following a win, and I have to stick with my series prediction that the Leafs would win the first two games at home, but Florida would turn things around and win the series.
Toronto is 18-8-2 this season as underdogs, and they’re a good moneyline bet at home. At Scotiabank, they’re 30-14-1 at home. The Stolarz injury is not good for Toronto long-term, but Woll is a capable back-up. Toronto’s offense is clicking with nine goals in the last two games, and I like them to outscore Florida.
Panthers vs Leafs Odds
Odds from BetMGM as of Wednesday morning. Use our BetMGM promo code for the NBA and NHL playoffs.
Florida is 1.5-goal favorites across the board, with the total at 5.5. Three of the last four meetings between these two teams have hit the over.
Underdogs have covered the puck line in the last 10 Panthers games in Toronto, that’s a good sign for the Leafs at home.
I found the best moneyline bets are Florida at -138 at FanDuel and Toronto +120 at DraftKings. The Panthers are still favored to win the series.
