  • Florida opened with a 1-0 win and visits San Jose for the Sharks’ season opener
  • Macklin Celebrini was named Sharks captain in September at 20 years old, the youngest in franchise history
  • My Panthers vs Sharks prediction and player props are below for Thursday night’s matchup at SAP Center

The Florida Panthers visit the San Jose Sharks on Thursday night at SAP Center in a 10 pm ET matchup. Florida opened its season with a 1-0 win, outshooting its opponent 20-15 in a tight, low-event game. San Jose plays its first game of the season.

The Sharks enter a new era with Macklin Celebrini wearing the captain’s C at just 20 years old, the youngest active captain in the NHL and the youngest in franchise history. He put up 45 goals and 115 points in 82 games last season, making him a player I’m watching in the Hart Trophy Odds this year. Will Smith (24 goals, 59 points) gives San Jose another scoring threat.

Here are my Panthers vs Sharks prediction, player props and NHL odds for Thursday night.

Panthers vs Sharks Prediction

  • Best bet: Sharks moneyline (+125 at BetMGM)

My Panthers vs Sharks prediction is on San Jose at home. Florida’s opener was encouraging defensively, but the Panthers managed just one goal on 20 shots. That’s a small sample and not something to project forward from, but it’s worth noting that Florida didn’t generate much offense.

San Jose is rested and opening at home. Celebrini is a franchise-altering talent who posted 3.50 shots on goal per game last season, and the Sharks have the kind of young speed that can cause problems for Florida’s defense. At +125, I’ll take the home underdog.

  • Under 6.5 goals (-116 at BetMGM)

Florida allowed just 15 shots in its opener and generated only 20 of its own. That low-event game is the starting point for my under lean, though one result does not establish a season-long trend. San Jose can push the pace through Celebrini, but I prefer the room that a 6.5 total provides.

Odds from BetMGM as of October 1.

The Panthers vs Sharks odds have Florida as a moderate road favorite at -149. San Jose is +125 on the moneyline, making this a much tighter game in the eyes of the books than a heavy favorite would imply. The total is set at 6.5 with the under slightly juiced at -116. Panthers vs Sharks Player Props

PlayerPickOdds
Macklin Celebrini4+ Shots on Goal+120
Sam ReinhartAnytime Goal+185
Will Smith1+ Point-130

Props odds via DraftKings as of October 1.

Macklin Celebrini 4+ Shots on Goal (+120)

Celebrini averaged 3.50 shots on goal per game in 2025-26, totaling 287 across 82 games. That established shot volume is why I prefer his shots market to relying on a goal. Four shots is above his season average, but the +120 price compensates for that higher threshold. He can cash this pick without San Jose needing a high-scoring game.

Sam Reinhart Anytime Goal (+185)

Reinhart scored 29 goals and 61 points in 64 games last season, averaging 2.59 shots on goal per contest. That scoring record gives me a reason to take a small shot at +185. An anytime goal does not require Florida to win or the game to go over the total. It is the longer-priced scoring option among these three props.

Will Smith 1+ Point (-130)

Smith posted 24 goals and 59 points in 69 games last season (0.86 points per game) and averaged 2.41 shots on goal. The point market gives us either a goal or an assist, which I prefer to asking Smith to score himself. His season average does not tell us his game-by-game hit rate, but his 35 assists show the additional route to cashing this pick. This is the less aggressive San Jose prop alongside Celebrini’s shots.

Panthers vs Sharks How to Watch

Puck drop is at 10 pm ET / 7 pm PT from SAP Center in San Jose. The game airs on Scripps, NBCSCA and TVAS.
