PGA Odds – Early Look at 2016

Jason Day finally popped his major championship cherry last weekend in a big way, shooting a spectacular -20 at Whistling Straits to hold off a late challenge from the PGA’s player of the year, Jordan Spieth. In a lot of ways, it was a fitting end to this year’s majors.

Spieth, while falling just short of his third title, capped off a year where his worst finish at a major was a fourth at the British Open. He also managed to beat Tiger Woods’ record for lowest combined score at the majors in a single year (-54).

Speaking of Tiger, he once again missed the cut at the PGA Championship, which was the icing on the underachievement cake he baked to perfection in 2015. In a shockingly sad move, Woods has announced he will play next week’s Wyndham Championship for the first time in his career, a desperate Hail Mary to qualify for the FedEx Cup playoffs. (Woods would need at least a second place finish to achieve that.)

Even with Woods disappearing into the background, the PGA still has a bright future. Young stars like Spieth and Rory McIlroy will carry the sport for the next decade and push each other to be even greater. Going against a strong field with the likes of Day, Dustin Johnson, Justin Rose, and more, the game of golf is in a great place.
