The Coppa Italia Final is here at last, as Atalanta prepares to take on Juventus Wednesday night at Sassulo’s ground in Reggio Emilia, Italy. Atalanta have been on a tear as of late and if all things go in their favor on the last Serie A matchday, they could finish the season in second place. This would be a one spot improvement from their position in the table last year. However, also having a shot at silverware could make this season a dream come true for Gian Piero Gasperini’s side.

While Atalanta last won the Coppa Italia in 1963, they are playing a team much more decorated. Their opponents, Juventus, have lifted the trophy 13 times, while also playing in six more finals. Despite this, it would be unfair not to mention that Juventus have been not really up to par this season. The Old Lady currently sits in fifth place and could miss out on Champions League football next season, which would have thunderous implications throughout the club.

Atalanta vs Juventus ATA -0.5 (+145) | JUV +0.5 (-195) ATA +148 | JUV +180 | DRAW +230 Ov 2.5 (-129) | Un 2.5 (-103)

Odds as of May 17 at DraftKings

Typically, Juventus would always be favored in these types of matches. A final against another high-table Italian team, the oddsmakers never doubt Juventus. The fact that Atalanta are the favorites is the first key indicator that Juventus has really taken a step down. Furthermore, the last seven times these sides have played, Juventus have only won once. Atalanta won two of the other ties, while the other four ended in stalemates.

Atalanta No Shortage of Goals Lately

One thing is for certain, and that is Atalanta love to score the football. They have scored 110 goals this year in all competitions and have not slowed down to end the year. In fact, the black and blues have scored 11 goals in their last three matches. Luis Muriel and Duvan Zapata cause problems all over the pitch for their opponents and their goal tally proves it.

The Columbian pair of attackers have 55 combined goal contributions this year which makes for a fascinating battle with the Juventus defense. While Pirlo’s side have been struggling, one thing that has held steady is their defense. They have only conceded one goal per game in Serie A this year with Matthijs de Ligt and Giorgio Chiellini holding down the back. Both are not the fastest of players, which makes you wonder how they will cope with the high flying attack of Atalanta.

Atalanta vs Juventus Statistics

Atalanta
VS
Juventus
2.43 Goals per game 1.97
16.4 Shots per game 15.5
53.2% Possession % 55.6%
83.4% Passing % 88.3%

Furthermore, in a year where you lost Papu Gomez to Sevilla, Atalanta’s expectations should have dropped. But, it was their response that tells the story of this team. They got better as the year went on and have not lost since their Champions League duel versus Real Madrid.

Is Cristiano Ronaldo the X-Factor?

Football finals are always impacted and won by the most special players. Juventus are graced with the presence of Cristiano Ronaldo, and if anyone can save something out of their season, it is him. The 36-year-old has poured in 29 goals this season and still manages to play a big role in this team.

Ronaldo is obviously the target man up front, and could capitalize on Atalanta’s free flowing attack. While Atalanta love to score, they are very susceptible to let a few in at the same time. These are the games Ronaldo lives for, and it would be naive to think he will not have a hand in this one.

Atalanta vs Juventus Best Bet

Overall, the best bet in the Atalanta moneyline at +148. Atalanta are the favorites, but the moneyline odds still have really good value, as they go up against an older and slower Juventus side. The match will be close and I do think Ronaldo will find his way to the back of the net. However, I do not think it will be enough to stop Atalanta’s fearful attack.

Pick: Atalanta ML (+148)
