  • Real Madrid and Barcelona have a ten and nine-point respective lead on third place; this raises the question, who will get top four in La Liga this season?
  • Currently spots four through nine are only separated by nine points, which gives teams like Villareal and Granada chances to get in
  • See updated odds to finish top four after Matchday 26 below

Similarly to most seasons, Real Madrid and Barcelona have a sizable lead on the rest of the pack in La Liga. However, the race for top four is on, and despite Atletico Madrid and Sevilla being the heavy favorites, there is still room for a massive shakeup towards the top of the table. Real Sociedad could even jump up from sixth to third if they win their game in hand and upset the Catalan giants, Barcelona on Saturday.

Even a Valencia side in seventh is capable of moving up with only seven losses on the season. Comparable to other teams at the top, that is only two less than Barca, and one less than Sevilla. This proving that it would not take that great of a series of events for the table to change up and the La Liga odds are allowing you to make some really good money on a bet.

Atletico Madrid are the Safe Pick

While the obvious first choice here is Atletico Madrid, they have not been spectacular in La Liga, only tallying 44 points over 26 matches. Their win at home against Liverpool in the Champions League was impressive, but they are rarely consistent. With that being said, they have not been out of the top four in Spain for the past five years.

Choosing another side to make it in the top four is where it becomes more difficult. Sevilla looks to be back on track under Julen Lopetegui, but are closely trailed by Getafe and Sociedad. However, Sevilla has faced a couple of injuries as of late to goalkeeper Tomas Vaclik and defender Fernando, and their Europa League dreams could stand in the way of La Liga success.

Getafe Should Be Favored Over Sevilla

With this being said, Getafe are hungry for their first Champions League qualification and have proved their defense can handle the biggest of dogs as they muffled Ajax out of the Europa League last week. If they can manage to get by Barcelona this weekend with at least a point, their chances look very, very promising.

Not to mention their odds are +125, which still gives the bet some value. The other handful of La Liga teams below are just too inconsistent, and in these cases it is always smart to go with the best defense which is in this case, Getafe.

My Pick: Atletico Madrid (-250) and Getafe (+125)
