England and Argentina will meet in the World Cup semifinal on Wednesday, July 15, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. ET.

England booked their spot with a 2-1 extra-time win over Norway, while Argentina pulled away late to beat 10-man Switzerland 3-1 in extra time, Julian Alvarez’s 25-yard stunner and a Lautaro Martínez stoppage-time strike settling it. It renews a rivalry soaked in World Cup history, from 1966 to the Hand of God to Beckham.

The England vs Argentina odds opened dead even, but early money is already nudging England to the front.

Early money has poured in on England since the matchup was set, and it shows across the board at DraftKings. England has been bet down to +165 to win in regulation, with Argentina out to +190 and a 90-minute draw at +200. The total sits at 2.5 goals, with the under favored at -155 and the over at +125.

The odds to advance opened as a pick’em, but the same England money has moved that line too. England is now -120 to reach the final, with Argentina at -105. The early big bets at DraftKings have landed on England, and the books have shaded both numbers their way.

At prediction site Kalshi, the two are almost inseparable. England is trading at 52¢ to reach the final and Argentina at 50¢, a near dead heat the pair have traded all week. France, in the other semifinal, remains the overall favorite to reach the title game.

England Grinds Back to the Semifinals

England topped Group L with seven points, opening with a 4-2 win over Croatia before a flat 0-0 draw with Ghana and a 2-0 win over Panama. The knockouts have been a test of nerve.

The Three Lions edged DR Congo 2-1 in the round of 32, then survived a wild 3-2 win over Mexico at the Azteca, holding on with 10 men after a red card. In the quarterfinal, they needed extra time to see off Erling Haaland’s Norway, with Jude Bellingham scoring the 2-1 winner.

Harry Kane leads the way with six goals, having become England’s all-time World Cup scorer during the run. Bellingham has added four, and between them the pair account for the bulk of England’s output.

Messi Drives Argentina Again

Argentina won Group J with a perfect record, then survived a gauntlet of knockout scares. They needed extra time to beat Cape Verde 3-2 in the round of 32, rallied from 2-0 down in the final 11 minutes to stun Egypt 3-2 in the round of 16, and beat 10-man Switzerland 3-1 in the quarterfinal, with Julian Alvarez’s extra-time worldie and a Lautaro Martínez stoppage-time goal sealing it.

Lionel Messi has been the constant. He carried eight goals and the Golden Boot lead into the quarterfinal, and his career World Cup tally of 21 goals is the all-time record. At 39, this is almost certainly his final shot at the trophy.

The supporting cast has delivered when it mattered. Cristian Romero, Enzo Fernández, and Lautaro Martínez all played key roles in the comeback against Egypt.

H2H History: ENG vs ARG

Few rivalries carry this much weight. England and Argentina have met five times at World Cups, with England holding a 3-1-1 edge in those games.

The greatest hits run deep: Geoff Hurst’s goal in the 1966 win, Diego Maradona’s Hand of God and greatest-goal-ever double in 1986, Michael Owen’s wonder strike in the 1998 shootout loss, and David Beckham’s redemption penalty in 2002.

This would be the first World Cup meeting between the sides since that 2002 group-stage game.
