Inter Lighting Up Italy

The reigning Serie A champions are off to a dream start this term, winning four times and drawing once. They currently have 13 points, which puts them in second place and just behind Napoli for top spot, who have won all five matches. Inter were clinical in their 3-1 dismantling of Fiorentina on Tuesday, with several players getting on the scoresheet.

The Nerazzurri went down early in the first half thanks to a Riccardo Sottil opener, but the visitors responded in fine fashion in the second period with three goals. Matteo Darmian equalized in the 52nd minute with a clinical finish from inside the box before Edin Dzeko and Ivan Perisic sealed the three points.

Dzeko, who joined this summer from Roma, has hit the ground running at the San Siro, bagging four goals and tallying an assist in five appearances. Early on, he’s proving to be the perfect replacement for Romelu Lukaku, who left for Chelsea in August. As a whole, Simone Inzaghi’s men have been absolutely deadly in the final third. Inter has scored a league-best 18 goals while conceding just five times. Lautaro Martinez, who was such a crucial piece of their Serie A triumph in 2020/21, has already netted three times as well.

The only possible negative that can be taken away from this side is a 1-0 defeat to Real Madrid on Matchday 1 of the Champions League last week. Other than that, Inzaghi’s squad has been fundamentally sound at the back and lethal up top. The Italian tactician will likely roll out the same starting XI as earlier this week, with Dzeko and Martinez spearheading the attack once again. Arturo Vidal and Stefano Sensi are still sidelined with injuries.

Atalanta Slowly Improving

Gian Piero Gasperini’s men struggled to begin the campaign, winning just once in their first three fixtures. However, Atalanta has improved ever since, collecting back-to-back victories in Serie A. Tuesday saw the Bergamaschi run out as 2-1 against Sassuolo behind two first-half goals from Robin Gosens and Davide Zappacosta. The German struck in the third minute after perfectly finishing off a brilliant cross from Ukrainian international Ruslan Malinovskiy.

Zappacosta then fired home his first goal for the club with a smashing hit into the corner. Sassuolo cut the deficit to one just before the halftime whistle, but Atalanta was ultimately able to hold on and collect a crucial three points. Gasperini’s side hasn’t been the same free-flowing, attacking-minded team that Europe fell in love with across the last two seasons, bagging just six goals while conceding four. But, Tuesday was certainly a step in the right direction.

Luis Muriel, who was their leading goal-getter in 2020/21 with 22 strikes to his name, is currently out with an injury, which has certainly hurt their productivity in the final third. Fellow Colombian Duvan Zapata has done a relatively decent job though, scoring twice and tallying an assist in five appearances.

As of right now, Atalanta sits in fifth spot with 10 points from five outings. It’s definitely not an ideal start, but two straight positive results should give the Bergamo-based outfit some much-needed confidence for a massive encounter with the Scudetto winners.

Inter Milan vs Atalanta Prediction

Inter are looking unbeatable right now domestically and I frankly don’t see them losing on home soil. However, Atalanta is showing improvement lately. That being said, I like the idea of the visitors rolling into the San Siro and grabbing a point in a hard-fought draw on the road.

Pick: Draw +265
