On February 22nd, Juventus and Villarreal played tirelessly to a 1-1 finish in the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16 match. Now, the two sides meet at the Allianz Stadium in Turin to settle their European fate.

In the first leg, it looked like Juventus were going to cruise to an easy victory. In fact, Dusan Vlahovic slotted in a goal after 32 seconds, marking the quickest Champions League goal on a player’s debut in the competition.

However, Juventus failed to win the possession battle and only mustered up two shots on target throughout the night. Conversely, Villarreal created nine shots, with three on target and one hitting the woodwork just after the ten minute mark. Finally, after 66 minutes of play the Yellow Submarine was able to break through. Etienne Capoue put a great ball into a sleeping Juventus defense, which Dani Parejo hit with a left-footed volley, to seal a first leg draw.

Overall, the second leg odds still favor Juventus with moneyline odds of -108. This is also expected to be a relatively quiet game in front of net as the over on 2.5 total goals has valuable odds of +115.

The public is heavily backing Juve. As of Wednesday morning, the betting handle and bet percentages at DraftKings are 85/83-percent on the Italian giants.

Can Juventus Make it Back to Quarterfinals?

Firstly, the Old Lady has had a very good Champions League campaign so far. Aside from a loss against Chelsea in the group stage, and the draw to Villarreal, they have been perfect. More importantly, Juventus have won all their matches at home in this year’s competition. Currently, they have the eighth-best Champions League odds at +2500.

Furthermore, this second leg presents a great opportunity for the Bianconeri. Of course, that is a return to the Champions League quarterfinals.

In the last two seasons, Juventus were knocked out in the Round of 16 by Lyon and Porto, respectively. But, there is some good news for the Italian giants. In both of those Round of 16 battles, they were eliminated on away goals, a rule that is now defunct.

As the Serie A Scudetto looks out of reach for Juventus, the Champions League and Coppa Italia grow in importance. For that reason, expect Massimiliano Allegri and company to throw all of their tricks at this game. Despite having a shaky start to the year, Juventus are unbeaten in 12 across all competitions, so do not count them out from a European run.

With that being said, Juventus will be without some key pieces including Weston McKennie, Federico Chiesa, Denis Zakaria, and Leonardo Bonucci.

Villarreal Could be Without Four Starters from First Leg

On the contrary, the injury situation at Villarreal is far more grave. While they will have plenty of confidence coming into this match after a 1-0 victory over Celta Vigo, they are planning to be without some key talents.

That list includes the likes of Alberto Moreno, Juan Foyth, Raul Albiol, Etienne Capoue and Gerard Moreno. Not all of these players are 100% absentees, but the list is glaring for Villarreal given their importance to the starting eleven.

In particular, the loss of Raul Albiol in the center of defense is very concerning. In the first leg, the 36 year-old defender was lined up with Vlahovic in Juventus’ two-pronged attack and kept him quiet after his initial goal.

Unai Emery can probably deal with Gerard Moreno being out, considering he has not had him available as of late. But, when you take Capoue out of the midfield, the service for Arnaut Danjuma and Giovani Lo Celso looks a little bleak.

Juventus vs Villarreal Best Bet

Overall, the best bet for this match is the Juventus moneyline with odds of -108. This bet has great value given that Juventus are 13-3-3 at home this season in all competitions. While Villarreal have nothing to lose, this game is the most important of the season for Juventus.

Pick: Juventus Moneyline (-108)
