Lille, meanwhile, celebrated its first triumph since the 2010-11 season with PSG pushed into second place by one point.

It was, additionally, only the second time in nine seasons that the Parisians had failed to finish in first position.

This match pits last season’s best Ligue1 defense against its best attack – with superstar striker Kylian Mbappe having returned early to the PSG squad after Euro 2020.

Lille conceded only 23 goals while, at the same time, PSG scored on 86 occasions.

Organization Pitted Against Style

It suggests, therefore, that the Super Cup meeting will be a collision of Lille’s dogged organization with PSG’S expansive style.

However, there have been major changes at both outfits which could hand PSG the advantage this time around.

In order to strengthen his side after it also suffered disappointment in the Champions League semifinal against Manchester City, PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino has made a raft of major signings to add to his glittering squad.

He has acted emphatically to land veteran defensive superstar Sergio Ramos from Real Madrid and Liverpool’s highly-rated attacking midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum.

Ramos, however, may not be available on this occasion through injury.

Lille has lost the coach who led it to the title – Christophe Galtier.

Meanwhile, Pochettino has also landed Italian Euro 2020 winning goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma from AC Milan along with Moroccan international full-back Achraf Hakimi from Internazionale.

In contrast, Lille has lost the coach who led it to the title – Christophe Galtier.

And the club’s fans in the industrial northern French city have been underwhelmed by his replacement Jocelyn Gourvennec.

This has been especially true during this month’s pre-season games in which Lille have won only once while losing three times and drawing once.

In the light of this, the oddsmakers at DraftKings rate PSG as wide favorites for a win at -105  in the tussle for the Trophee Des Champions.

Lille, meanwhile, is priced at +310 with the draw at +250.

In a tight market, Lille’s poor form points towards a spread choice on PSG.

So the offer of +235 for Paris to win by two goals or more is an attractive one (Spread-1.5).
