  • The Reds have a commanding lead in England’s top flight
  • They currently lead third-place Man City by 14 points
  • The high-flying Foxes of Leicester City are in second, eight points behind Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp’s dominant Liverpool side keeps on rolling in the Premier League this year, winning 15 out of 16 fixtures so far, drawing just once to Manchester United. Defending champions Manchester City were looking to catch the Reds, but even though it’s still early in the season, Pep Guardiola’s side is sitting a whopping 14 points back in the third spot. They suffered another defeat in the Manchester Derby this past weekend and are seeing their possible title hopes slip away as each day passes.

EPL 2019-20 Odds

Manchester City +825
Leicester City +1400
Chelsea +25000
Tottenham Hotspur +40000
Manchester United +75000
Arsenal +100000
Wolverhampton Wanderers +100000

Odds taken Dec. 10.

The reality is that Liverpool isn’t going to lose four times throughout this campaign. That’s how many times City has lost this year, just 16 games in. The Reds had just -250 odds to win the Premier League a month ago, while City was at +242. Now in EPL odds, Liverpool is the clear-cut favorite at -800, while the defending champions of England are at a disappointing +825. Although there’s a lot of matches left this term, Virgil van Dijk and co. look unstoppable this year and are definitely the favorite to be the new champions of the Premier League.

Liverpool in Fantastic Form

It’s hard to imagine any team in the Premier League catching Jurgen Klopp’s in-form Liverpool side this year. They have been exhilarating to watch, from their electric front three on the attack to their world-class backline led by Virgil van Dijk. In the last nine months, the Reds have the most points in all of Europe’s major leagues, going 24-1-0 during that span with 73 points. They sit ahead of Barcelona, who have just 61 points. They’re arguably the best team in the world currently and definitely look like they could be adding another trophy to their accomplishments by the season’s end with a Premier League title.

Sadio Mane and Mo Salah have contributed the most goals for Liverpool this term, bagging nine and seven tallies apiece. Wing-back Trent Alexander Arnold has been brilliant as well, contributing six assists while playing an instrumental part every match for Jurgen Klopp. The third member of their front three, Roberto Firmino, hasn’t been scoring at the highest rate, but he’s still registered four goals and four assists in 16 appearances.

All around, Liverpool is an extremely good side. They don’t have any notable weaknesses on the pitch and it’s going to be very tough for any team in England to catch them at the top of the table.

City Should Focus on Europe

Manchester City’s hopes of repeating as Premier League champions look nearly impossible at this point, with Leicester City even surpassing them in second place. It just hasn’t been their year, unfortunately, suffering defeats to the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool, Wolves, and even Norwich City. They are still scoring very often, leading England with 44 goals in just 16 matches, but they’re conceding far too many, letting in 19 goals.

At this point, they should shift their focus to the Champions League. City has struggled in Europe’s most prized competition in past years, but with the Premier League title not in the cards this year, Pep Guardiola’s side may as well try and win a trophy they have never captured.

Leicester City Flying High

Brendan Rodger’s side has been a huge surprise this year, currently hovering in second place in the Premier League with 38 points. Foxes’ marksman Jamie Vardy has been in marvelous form, netting a league-leading 16 goals in as many matches, while scoring in eight straight appearances.

Despite selling center-back Harry Maguire to Manchester United for a record fee in the summer, Leicester has conceded a Premier League-best 10 goals. His replacement, Caglar Soyuncu, has been brilliant, adding 88 clearances this season so far, which is third-best in England’s top flight. Ricardo Pereira and Wilfred Ndidi lead England with 70 and 69 tackles respectively, so it stands to reason why the Foxes have been so utterly dominant in their own end.

If you were to bet on Leicester City without Man City and Liverpool in the mix, it would be a safe move. They currently have -275 odds without those two sides included and given their recent form, they can even contest for a second-place finish this season.

Liverpool Will Win EPL Title

The caliber of football Liverpool has been playing this year has been phenomenal. Man City lacks the defensive reinforcements to battle the Reds for the title, evident by their 3-1 defeat to Klopp’s side last month. Leicester City is seriously showing the potential to end up in second spot this season, but it’s still very early. If City can bring in some defenders to help their squad in the January transfer window, it could really do wonders for them.

But at this point, no one is catching Liverpool. They look well on their way to their first Premier League title since way back in 1990.

Pick: Liverpool (-800)
