  • PSG is three points off the top of the table in the quest for their fourth straight French title
  • PSG are the favorites against Marseille with a moneyline of -265 – read below to see who we like in this one

PSG normally dominate the story of any game they are involved in. However, this weekend they are traveling to Marseille, a team that has epically fallen from grace since last year.

A team that finished in second place last season, 12 points behind their next opponents, has now gone an entire month without a win. In fact, that win is the only Marseille victory in their last 10 fixtures. Currently, they sit in ninth place on the Ligue 1 table and are in desperate need of a positive result.

On the other side of the field sit PSG, a team that seems rejuvenated in spirit thanks to new manager, Mauricio Pochettino.

The Parisians have only lost one game out of 10 which came a week ago in a 3-2 shocker versus Lorient. However, keeper Keylor Navas looks doubtful for the match due to an adductor issue, and Ander Herrera and Juan Bernat will also miss out due to injury. This could cause issues for PSG, but with the form Marseille are currently on, it will take a massive effort to topple Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

Will PSG Repeat Reverse Fixture?

PSG and Marseille actually just played each other only three weeks ago in the Trophee des Champions, which is the equivalent of any Super Cup. The match was played at the Stade Félix Bollaert-Delélis and PSG won by a score of 2-1, thanks to goals from Mauro Icardi and Neymar. Payet was able to bring one back for Marseille in the dying embers of the match, but it just was not enough to overcome the French superpower.

Additionally, this is a head-to-head match that  heavily favors PSG. Since 2011, PSG have only lost to Marseille once in 22 attempts, while winning 18. It is clear that PSG has the advantage on paper to win outright, but what makes this match interesting is how it will actually play out. The last two matches between these sides has only been decided by one goal, so it could be one real display of excellence that steals the show.

Marseille’s Defense Better Than Anticipated

Despite being in ninth place, Marseille’s goal difference is actually quite positive for their table position, sitting at +5. They can thank their defense for that, conceding only 24 goals in Ligue 1 this season.

Duje Caleta-Car has been a major strong point in their back line, which is why he recently garnered interest from Premier League champions Liverpool as the transfer window closed. Rumors are that he was heartbroken a deal was not put into place, which raises the question: will he be focused enough to stop the PSG attack?

Regardless of the answer, Marseille will have a tough time dealing with PSG’s offense. Not having Navas or Herrera could hinder PSG, but all it takes is a few through balls or missed tackles and this game could be history. Mbappe is on 15 goals this season, but lately Neymar has looked just as brilliant, scoring four in the last five PSG matches.

Marseille vs PSG Best Bet

The best bet for this match is Neymar to score at any time with odds of -113. This game is tricky because obviously PSG are the massive favorites. Marseille do not really stand much of a chance, but they could keep it relatively close.

These sides have hit the over on 2.5 total goals seven out of the last nine times they have played but the odds for that are not even worth betting on. Meanwhile, betting the over on 3.5 total goals is a little too risky. The chances of Neymar scoring are very good given the run of form he has been on and still carry good value.

My Pick: Neymar to score (-113)
