Another week of MLS action is upon us, and that means another huge card of games taking place on Saturday in MLS Week 9. We’ve combed through the slate and picked out our top three MLS prediction for today below.

Through eight weeks, LAFC are still undefeated, expansion side St. Louis City still sit atop the Supporters’ Shield and the LA Galaxy, Sporting KC and CF Montreal all look to be in serious trouble. With only three points LA and SKC are also still winless.

We were 2-1 last week in our MLS picks and would have been 3-0 if not for Seattle completely imploding and coughing up a second hlf lead against Portland.

Let’s dive into this week’s MLS picks and odds.

MLS Predictions, Betting Trends Week 9

Once again, 28 of 29 teams are in action this week with Vancouver being the team on bye.

With a huge CCL semifinal match coming up next week, Philadelphia and LAFC could elect to use some rotation this weekend as they’ll face eachother on Wednesday.

Stock up? It has to be New England. The Revs are undefeated in five and sit tops in the East. Stock down? Well we have three teams mentioned earlier with three points, plus Inter Miami who have lost five straight.

You could’ve made a killing taking plus-money on Toronto draws this season as they’re 1-6-1. Just good enough not to lose. Not good enough to win has been TFC’s story thus far.

Totals bettors should note that St. Louis (7-1), RSL (6-1) and Charlotte (6-2) have been the top Over teams so far on 2.5 totals. Meanwhile, Nashville (7-1), the Red Bulls (7-1) and Miami (6-1) have cashed the most Under tickets.

NYCFC vs FC Dallas Prediction

These are two teams I haven’t touched on much this season but through eight weeks some trends have started to appear.

New York had been a strong Under team, going 6-1 to the Under heading into last week. That was before they faced another Under team in Nashville (7-0), and lo-and-behold they of course went Over, with the Pigeons winning 2-1.

An Over cashing may have been rare, but goals coming from both sides has not been. Both teams have found the back of the net in 5/8 NYCFC games and in each of the past three. Dating back into last season New York has scored in 12 of their past 14 games and in 16 straight at home.

When it comes to FC Dallas, they’re an even 4-4 to 2.5 goal totals. But they’re 6-2 when it comes to betting both teams to score. They’ve also scored in 7/8 games this season, in each of their past seven and are coming off a 2-1 win last week.

New York has held the edge recently between the teams being undefeated in six versus Dallas.

Another way to bet this match could be the cards market. Dallas leads the league with 24 yellow cards, while NYCFC are tied in second with 22. Dallas has also received one red card. When it comes to fouls, NYCFC have been charged with a foul sixth-most times, while Dallas rank 16th.

But for the purposes of our MLS picks we’ll back goals from both teams in this game.

New England Revolution vs Sporting KC Prediction

Only two teams are still winless on the season. One of them is Sporting KC. Only one team has scored fewer than three goals on the season. That one team is Sporting KC. The two goals SKC have scored at this point in the season is an all-time MLS low in the history books. Four goals through the opening eight games had been the previous low.

All of this is bad for SKC. And when you go back into last season they’re now winless in nine. Their road form has been particularly poor as they’re winless in 11 and have just two wins in their past 24 away games.

The Revs have gotten off to their second-best start to a season after eight matches at 5-2-1. Last week they went into Columbus and nearly came away with the three points, leading 1-0 until the Crew tied it up late in the 98′ minute.

New England has eight different players who have scored a goal this season and four that have two goals. However, three of those four could miss out. Dylan Borrero will definitely miss out through suspension, while Bobby Wood and Gustavo Bou are both questionable on the MLS injury report; two of seven Revs listed with a designation.

But the man who the offense runs through, Carles Gil (2G/3A) will be in the lineup, and DP striker Giacomo Vrioni is coming on with a goal and five shots (three on target) in his last two games.

Sporting will also be dealing with injuries of their own, also with seven players listed as either out or questionable.

MLS Week 9 Parlay Picks

Here’s a two-teamer for this weekend as part of your MLS predictions.

Seattle Sounders vs Minnesota United Prediction

Just when everything was turning up roses for Seattle and they were leading 1-0 on the road to their Cascadia rivals Portland last week, they coughed up four goals from the 71′ to 89′ minute and lost 4-1.

The Sounders return home in Week 9 looking to get back on track at Lumen Field. They should have every chance to do so as they’ve suffered just a single defeat in their past 11 home games. Seattle is 7-3-1 in their past 11 home games and has outscored their opponents 21-7. They also have consecutive clean sheets in their past four home games.

While Minnesota started the season strong going undefeated in their first five games, the last two weeks have been back-to-back 2-1 defeats.

Last year Seattle won both meetings 3-1 and 2-1. Seattle has now won three in a row against Minnesota and six of the past seven. But that actually buries the headline that the Sounders have lost just once against the Loons over 12 all-time meetings at 10-1-1. Both the one draw and one loss came in Minnesota.

The Loons have managed to keep things tight at the back only conceding seven goals in eight games, but they’ve also only scored eight themselves. Minnesota have only managed 19 shots on target (27th) and if they fall behind in Seattle which I expect they will, I don’t see them having the firepower to come back. Therefore a Seattle win will start of this parlay.

Charlotte FC vs Columbus Crew Prediction

Charlotte has allowed the sixth-most shots (107) and the most shots on target (48) of any team in MLS through eight weeks.

Considering Columbus has the fourth-most middle third touches, and second-most attacking third and penalty area touches, they’ll likely be buzzing around the Charlotte net most of the game. The Crew are ninth in shots, tenth in shots on target and have scored the second-most goals in MLS with 18.

The 98′ minute equalizer last week means Columbus has scored in every game this season. They’ve also scored in each of their past 14 games and in 20/21.

Charlotte has seen both teams scoring in each of their past five and have conceded in all all eight games this season and in each of their past ten. Columbus to score will be the second leg of the parlay.

  • MLS Parlay Picks: Seattle to win / Columbus to score (+112); risk 1 unit at Caesars Sportsbook

Last week: 2-1, +0.41 units

MLS Season Record: 12-14, -3.97 units
