MLS Predictions Week 12

Through 11 weeks it’s New England and Cincinnati sitting atop the Supporters’ Shield standings with 24 points each with a four-point cushion above Seattle with 20 points.

Both New England and Cincinnati are coming off of Week 11 wins, while Seattle suffered a shock home defeat to the previously undefeated Sporting Kansas City.

LAFC had their first defeat of the season losing 2-1 in San Jose leaving them third place in the West at 5-3-1.

Those Seattle and LAFC defeats contributed to a 1-2 week in our MLS picks last week, leaving our season record at 15-20, -7.59

Meanwhile, two teams, the New York Red Bulls and Chicago Fire, each pulled the plug on coaches Gerhard Struber and Ezra Hendrickson respectively.

All of that said, plus with many teams coming off midweek Cup games and playing the same opponent, (Chicago vs St. Louis and Montreal vs Toronto), we’re going to try to keep this simple and take some ‘both teams to score’ bets for our MLS predictions for Week 12.

CF Montreal vs Toronto FC Prediction

Neither of these teams are currently in the playoff picture and while it was Montreal that was struggling more for most of the season, they’ll enter this game as the in-form side with three-straight league wins, plus a 2-1 road win over TFC on Tuesday in the Canadian Championship (CAC). With another CAC win over Vaughan in April, they’ve now won five in a row.

Montreal is 4-0-6 in the year, while Toronto, with just two wins, is only two points back due to their six draws, 2-6-3.

The last regular season game between the teams ended 4-3 for Montreal in Toronto last September. A home team hasn’t failed to score in this rivalry in the past nine games across all competitions.

Montreal lacks any stars on their side, but they’ve now won five straight and have scored two goals in each of those wins while only conceding one goal. That one goal came against TFC and Toronto, looking for quick revenge after their midweek loss have the weapons to score again.

Austin FC vs FC Dallas Prediction

It’s a mismatch in the standings when these Texas rivals meet as Austin sits 12th in the West and Dallas fifth.

But when these teams have met up previously bettors have done well backing goals and Overs. Last season in three meetings Austin won 2-1 at home to go with a 1-1 and 2-2 draw.

In 2021 Dallas won 2-1, 5-3 and 2-0.

Austin enters this one off back-to-back 2-2 draws with San Jose and Portland. Outside of a 0-0 draw with Vancouver and 1-0 win over Montreal, the Verde and Black have conceded a goal in 8/10 games.

They’ll be missing their top scoring threat in the injured Sebastian Driussi, but Emiliano Rigoni is coming on with a goal and two assists in last three games. He’s also leading the team in chances created overall. With Driussi out, it could be an opportunity for Gyasi Zardes to spread his wings up top, as he’s yet to score this season.

Dallas drew with Minnesota 0-0 last week and have a 1-0 home win over Miami, but otherwise they too have conceded a goal in 8/10. When not playing Minnesota this season, (0-0 draw and 1-0 loss), Dallas has also scored in each of their other eight games.

LA Galaxy vs San Jose Earthquakes Prediction

Here’s another Western rivalry that usually produces goals.

Last season’s results saw each team win 3-2 on the road.

It was the fourth straight game between them that saw both teams scoring and three or more goals being scored.

San Jose is off to one of their best starts in years at 5-3-3 and fourth in the West. They took down the previously undefeated LAFC last week and have scored in each of their past six games. However, much of that success has come at home. On the road, they’re still winless at 0-2-3 and have allowed 11 goals in those five games.

The Galaxy are a disaster this season at 1-3-6, sitting bottom of the league with SKC. They’ve lost their past two games 3-1 and 2-0 and their performances have left Chicharito lost for words and calling out the organization in post-game press conferences. Maybe they’ll manage to get up for a standalone rivalry match, but I’m at least expecting a goal from them.
