  • Southampton star Danny Ings has shortened his Golden Boot odds to just 18-1
  • The former Liverpool man had 50-1 odds on December 23rd
  • Does Ings offer value for the Premier League Golden Boot?

As the Golden Boot race continues to heat up, Danny Ings continues to impress for Southampton, bagging 14 goals in 23 Premier League appearances this term. He’s scored three times in his last four matches, which have shortened his EPL Golden Boot odds to 18-1 currently.

Ings now sees himself in a three-way tie with Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford and Arsenal’s Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang with 14 tallies. Ings is just three goals away from the Premier League’s leading scorer Jamie Vardy, who’s netted 17 goals, while Sergio Aguero is in second with 15.

EPL Golden Boot Odds

Player Odds
Jamie Vardy +150
Sergio Aguero +250
Pierre Emerick-Aubameyeng +1000
Mo Salah +1200
Tammy Abraham +1200
Sadio Mane +1400
Danny Ings +1800
Marcus Rashford +1800
Raheem Sterling +2000
Gabriel Jesus +5000

Odds taken Jan 20.

Although Ings has shortened his Golden Boot odds from 50-1 to 18-1, it still looks like a daunting task for him to finish as the Premier League leading scorer. Vardy has slowed down recently but Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero has been absolutely lethal, smashing home six goals in his last three matches. The Argentine also bagged his 12th career hat-trick last week, surpassing Alan Shearer for the most hat-tricks in Premier League history.  Thanks to Aguero’s breathtaking form lately, he’s shortened his odds from +1400 in December to just +250 as of today.

Ings Continues to Impress

Southampton’s star striker is enjoying a fantastic campaign, scoring a career-best 14 goals already. He’s helped Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side steer clear of the relegation zone. currently sitting in 13th place. Ings scored just seven goals last season for the Saints in 24 appearances. The 27-year old has found his best form at St. Mary’s after numerous seasons at Liverpool where he struggled to break into the first-team due to injuries. If he continues to bag goals at a high rate, Ings could even see a call up to England for this summer’s European Championships.

Aguero and Vardy Will Battle it Out

Although Ings has been absolutely outstanding, I don’t believe he will win the scoring title. It’s going to come down to Jamie Vardy and Sergio Aguero.

Leicester City has been entertaining to watch this season, giving Manchester City a run for their money in second place. One of the biggest reasons the Foxes have been so exciting is because Jamie Vardy can’t stop scoring. He had a streak earlier in the season where he scored 11 goals in just eight matches, proving that he really is one of the Premier League’s most deadly finishers. Although he’s slowed down recently, the 33-year old will definitely find his scoring touch again soon.

Aguero is now the leading overseas goal scorer in Premier League history, surpassing Thierry Henry last week with his three goals against Aston Villa. He’s easily the most prolific scorer Man City has ever seen. Just two goals behind Vardy right now, there’s a very high chance he can contest for a Premier League Golden Boot this season.

If Aguero continues his lethal streak in the final third, he could pass Vardy if the Englishman doesn’t find his form soon.

But with lots of matches left, I do believe Vardy will end up winning the Golden Boot by the season’s end.

Pick: Jamie Vardy +150
