In what has been an extremely surprising season for the Leicester City Foxes who currently sit in second place in England’s top flight, their number nine Jamie Vardy has played an instrumental role in their success. The 32-year old is having an outstanding campaign with a Premier League-leading 17 goals already this term.

Two new names sit behind Vardy in the second spot in Southampton’s Danny Ings and Chelsea’s young striker Tammy Abraham. Ings is enjoying his best season to date, already surpassing last year’s goal total, where he had just seven in 24 appearances.

2019-20 EPL Golden Boot Odds

Player Odds
Jamie Vardy EVEN
Harry Kane +700
Mohamed Salah +700
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang +1000
Sadio Mane +1000
Tammy Abraham +1000
Raheem Sterling +1200
Sergio Aguero +1400
Marcus Rashford +1800
Danny Ings +5000

Odds taken Dec 23.

The former Liverpool man has become the backbone of the Saints up front as they look to steer clear of the relegation zone. Meanwhile, Abraham, who was lethal for Aston Villa last year netting 26 times in 40 appearances, has continued his brilliance in the final third with the Blues, bagging 11 goals already.

Lastly, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been about the only bright spot in North London for a struggling Arsenal side. The Gabonese international has also scored 11 goals to date.

The latest Golden Boot odds currently favor Vardy at +100.

Kane and Salah are currently tied in second with +700 odds, with nine goals apiece. Out of the three who all have 11 goals, Aubameyang is the only one who looks to have any serious chance of catching Vardy at +1000, considering Abraham hasn’t been scoring much as of late and Ings doesn’t necessarily receive enough consistent service with Southampton to catch Vardy’s 17 goals.

Vardy on Fire

It’s hard to imagine anyone catching Jamie Vardy this year in the Premier League Golden Boot race. Leicester’s main man up top has been absolutely electric, bagging 17 goals in just 18 fixtures. He’s also scored in nine straight Premier League matches, including a beautiful finish to give the Foxes an early lead against Man City over the weekend,  even though they ended up losing 3-1.

Vardy currently has 28 goals in this calendar year alone, which is five more than any other player in England during that time period. He’s thrived under Brendan Rodgers since taking over in February as the Leicester City boss. With his recent scoring streak, Vardy definitely looks like the man to win the scoring title in England this year.

Even though it’s early, the 32-year old is showing no signs of slowing down. The energy he brings on the pitch each and every weekend is unmatched and the results he’s seeing are a perfect example of the fire Vardy plays with.

Closer Look at Second Place Scorers

Tammy Abraham has surprised a lot of people this year, proving the doubters wrong that he can be the number nine that Chelsea desperately need. Although he’s scored 11 times this term, Abraham has found the net just once in his last five Premier League appearances.

The 22-year old bagged seven of his goals this year in a three-game span, scoring twice against Newcastle and Southampton in late August, then recording his first-ever PL hat-trick on September 14th against Wolves. Abraham’s average odds have worsened from +550 last month on November 26th to +1000 today due to his lack of consistency in front of goal in the last couple months.

Ings has enjoyed a great year, seeing his odds go from +9000 last month to +5000 as of today.

Southampton’s number nine has scored seven times in his last seven appearances, including a brace over the weekend in a crucial victory over Aston Villa. Ings looks to have really found a home at St Mary’s, finding the best form of his career this season as he looks to help  Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side avoid relegation.

Aubameyang has continued to score goals at a high rate as per usual, even though Arsenal are currently in shambles. With former Gunners player Mikel Arteta now at the helm, the hope is that the Spaniard can turn around their season and guide them into the top ten at the very least.

Despite the team’s struggles, Aubameyang has been impressive in the final third, scoring 11 times in 18 Premier League appearances. However, he’s scored just four times in his last nine appearances in domestic play, which have lengthened his odds from +775 in November to +1000 currently.

Vardy is Best Bet

Vardy is definitely the number one choice to take home his first-ever Golden Boot by the season’s end. With a six-goal cushion over the next closest player, it’s going to very tough for anyone to catch him at the rate he’s putting the ball in the back of the net.

Kane and Salah aren’t far off the second spot and could make a push to put pressure on Aubameyang, Ings, and Abraham, but at this point, no one is going to catch Leicester City’s star striker in the top spot.

Pick: Jamie Vardy (+100)
