Tottenham Hotspur need to give a boost to  their fading hopes of qualifying for the Champions League when they take on Everton at home in England’s Premier League on Monday.

Jose Mourinho’s Spurs team have slipped from seventh to 10th place in the wake of a 3-1 defeat away at Sheffield United last Thursday.

Everton, meanwhile, have enjoyed an encouraging restart to the season and climbed from 12th to 11th after last Wednesday’s 2-1 home defeat of Leicester City. They now have hopes of qualifying for the Europa League.

Three Away Wins Under Ancelotti

Everton have won only four times away from home this season. But three of those victories have come since veteran Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti replaced Marco Silva in late December.

In familiar fashion, Mourinho is already becoming frustrated only nine months into his reign as Tottenham boss.

His team had endured a troubled time ahead of the Coronavirus shutdown as they lost 2-1 at Chelsea and 3-2 away to Wolves before a 1-1 draw at home against Burnley in the final game in March.

After the resumption of play, they drew 1-1 at home against Manchester United in a game which marked the return from a six-month injury layoff of star striker Harry Kane.

Things looked up with a 2-0 defeat at home of West Ham United; the first league win in five games and with Kane finding the scoresheet.

Everton have lost only three times in 14 games since Ancelotti was appointed.

But the setback at Sheffield United was a bitter blow with the second goal of Kane’s comeback – a 90th minute penalty – offering no consolation.

Everton have lost only three times in 14 games since Ancelotti was appointed.

They, too, had a worrying spell before the shut-down with a 3-2 defeat at Arsenal, a 1-1 draw at home against Manchester United and a 4-0 thrashing at Chelsea preceding the suspension of play.

Things have looked up since. The opening game after the restart was a predictably tight 0-0 draw in the Merseyside derby against Liverpool.

Then came a 1-0 win away at Norwich before last week’s 2-1 home win against third-placed Leicester City.

However, Ancelotti’s side have not exactly been prolific – scoring only four times in their last five matches.

Against that, the Spurs have scored only five times in their last four games – which points towards a draw in north London on Monday.

Tottenham have the fifth-best home record in the EPL at their sparkling new stadium and have won nine times, drawn three times and lost four, while scoring 30 and conceding 16 goals.

Defensive Discipline Needed

Mourinho will be concerned above all to keep things tight and avoid another defeat after the reverse in Sheffield, which again points towards a low-scoring draw on Monday.

There was a 1-1 draw between Everton and Spurs at Goodison Park last November. This made it four wins and two draws for Spurs in the teams’ last six meetings.

Everton have won only four times away – three times under Ancelotti – with three draws and nine defeats.

After letting in 13 goals in Ancelotti’s first five road trip games, he has clearly worked on his defence  with clean sheets in both away matches at Liverpool and Norwich City.

Again, only three of those  nine setbacks have come under Ancelotti and they were all against major opponents: Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea.

They have scored 19 times on the road and conceded 31 goals.

After letting in 13 goals in Ancelotti’s first five road trip games, he has clearly worked on his defence with clean sheets in both away matches since the re-start at Liverpool and Norwich City.

Pick: Draw (+220)
