Tsitsipas Continues to Dominate in Cincinnati

The 24-year old continues to enjoy himself in Cincinnati, where he’s has reached the semifinals the past two years, and is on pace to do it again.

The Greek defeated Diego Schwartzman 6-3, 6-3, to move onto the quarterfinals.

Tsitsipas had complete control over this match from start to finish. He earned 14 breakpoints and converted five. There were a few opportunities that could have allowed Isner to potentially build a comeback, but Schwartzman himself was also not on his game yesterday.

Tsitsipas will now go up against Isner, who he’s won the past four consecutive meetings against, and leads their head-to-head 4-2.

Isner Fights His Way Through In Cincy

The 37-year old hasn’t had the easiest ride to the quarterfinals, but he’s here. The American opened his tournament up with a battle, defeating France’s Benjamin Bonzi 7(13)-6(11), 3-6, 7(7)-6(4). In this match alone, the Isner served up 31 aces.

He then went up against his doubles partner Hubert Hurkacz, and won 7(7)-6(5), 6(5)-7(7), 6-2. And most recently defeated fellow American Sebastian Korda 7(7)-6(3), 1-6, 7(7)-6(4).

The American is now back in the quarterfinals for the first time since 2017.

Seventh Match Between Tsitsipas and Isner

These two know each other well. The two first played each other back in 2017, and have now faced one another six times over the years. Their last meeting came at the French Open in 2021, with Tsitsipas winning in four sets.

Isner won their early matches in 2017 and 2018, But Tsitsipas has won every encounter since.

Tsitsipas vs Isner Pick

Both men have found success at the Western & Southern Open. As mentioned Tsitsipas reached the semifinals in 2020 and 2021, and is looking to make it three years in a row. Isner himself is a 2017 semifinals and 2013 finalist. So they both know what it takes to go deep in the tournament.

Isner brings experience into this match, but it’s hard to argue that Tsitsipas doesn’t have experience. The 24-year is one of the best in the world, and has been one of the best.

Isner’s serve will be his greatest weapon, having already recorded a total of 69 aces over his three matches. Tsitsipas on the other hand, his greatest weapon will be his court coverage. He won’t be able to compete with the American on serve, so he will most likely find other ways to win points.

The edge looks to be in Tsitsipas’ favor, especially since Isner has had back-to-back-to-back three set matches that have pushed him to the limit. The American is going to be a bit tired. Look for the Greek star to take advantage in every aspect he can.

Best Bet: Tsitsipas 2-0 (-120)
