The Rocket Richard goes to the NHL’s top goal scorer, so the futures market tracks one number all year: goals. The favorite is whoever’s filling the net, and a cold month or a hot sniper can reshuffle the board in a hurry.

This page is the record. Each completed season is below, with the chart showing how the market moved, a recap of how the winner got there, dated movement notes, and the closing odds.

2022 Rocket Richard Trophy Odds

Sports Betting Dime

The 2021-22 season was the Auston Matthews show. The Maple Leafs sniper poured in 60 goals, the NHL’s first 60-goal season since Steven Stamkos in 2011-12, to lock up his second straight Rocket Richard.

Leon Draisaitl pushed early and Chris Kreider had a monster first half, but once Matthews got rolling nobody else was close. He closed at -625 with a four-goal cushion and five games to play.

Below is how the 2022 goal race played out.

2020 Rocket Richard Trophy Odds

Sports Betting Dime

For just the third time in trophy history, the Rocket Richard was shared. Alex Ovechkin and David Pastrnak each finished with 48 goals when COVID-19 ended the season, and the league handed the award to both, as it had in 2004 and 2010.

Pastrnak set the early pace and led the market for stretches, while Ovechkin chased him down to pull even. Neither could break the tie before commissioner Gary Bettman declared the regular season over in May.

Here’s how the 2020 goal race played out before the stoppage.

2020 Rocket Richard Trophy Odds (December 9)

Player (Team) Odds
David Pastrnak (Bruins) +224

Nathan MacKinnon (Avalanche) +1201
