- Boise State are 12-point favorites at home vs. Marshall on Friday (Sep. 6)
- The Broncos are 7-3-1 against the spread in their last 11 games as a double-digit favorite
- Boise State is 17-3 straight up in its last 20 home games
The oddsmakers believe that the Broncos should defeat the Thundering Herd without much trouble when Boise State hosts Marshall as heavy favorites this Friday (Sep. 6, 9:00 PM ET).
Boise State are 12-point favorites to topple Herd on Friday. One book is actually giving Marshall 12.5 points.
Marshall Thundering Herd vs Boise State Broncos Odds
Team | Moneyline | Spread | Over/Under |
---|---|---|---|
Marshall | -350 | +12.0 (-104) | Over 57.0 (-105) |
Boise State | +500 | -12.0 (-116) | Under 57.0 (-115) |
*Odds taken 9/05/19.
That might seem like a lot of points to lay, but in Boise State’s case, it really isn’t. The Broncos are 7-3-1 against the spread in the last 11 games in which they were made a double-digit favorite.
Boise State Goes Big
In reality, handing a dozen points to the other team generally isn’t much of an issue for Boise State. Last season, the Broncos feasted even in the face of much larger odds to overcome.
In Week 2 last season, Boise State was a 33.5-point favorite over the Connecticut Huskies and won 62-7. Later in the 2018 campaign, they gave 23.5 points to Colorado State and drubbed the Rams 56-28.

They beat Wyoming 34-14 as 15.5-point favorites over the Cowboys. The Broncos toppled New Mexico 45-14 as 21.5-point picks over the Lobos.
Boise State are 4-2 ATS in the last six home games in which they’ve given a double-digit point spread.
Marshall Couldn’t Cover
The Thundering Herd opened on a straight up successful note last week. Marshall put a 56-17 whipping on VMI but the 44-point spread proved to be too much to cover.

Marshall is 3-3 in the last six games in which it has been listed as a double-digit point underdog. But when they get double-digit points on the road, the Thundering Herd are 3-1 ATS in their last four games.
Though they are 5-1 SU in their last six games, the Thundering Herd are a disappointing 1-4 ATS in their last five games.

They are 7-3 SU in their last 10 Friday games and 6-2 SU in their last eight Week 2 games.
The total has gone over in six of the Thundering Herd’s last seven games and in each of Marshall’s past five road games.
Boise State Benchmarks
The Broncos have won five straight games against Conference USA opposition. Boise State is 4-1 ATS in its last five Friday games.

Broncos Will Stampede Over Herd
Marshall isn’t a shabby team. Coming off a nine-win season, they were preseason favorites to win the East Division of Conference USA. The Thundering Herd return 15 starters, including quarterback Isaiah Green.
However, beating up on a FCS team like VMI doesn’t hold a candle to what the #24 Broncos did. Boise State overcame an 18-point deficit in Tallahassee to win 36-31 as a road underdog at Florida State.

Broncos quarterback Hank Bachmeier, a true freshman, stepped in for the departed Brett Rypien very smoothly. He completed 30 passes for 407 yards. Eight receivers made multiple catches.
CT Thomas caught five balls for 103 yards. Tailback Robert Mahone rushed for 142 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries.

Boise State plays the game on a completely different level than Marshall. They’re capable of running with and beating top FBS teams.
The Broncos will spread out the Thundering Herd defense with their passing attack and then unleash Mahone from the backfield.
They’ll get ahead early and easily cover the spread.
Play: Boise State (-500, -12.5, over 57)
