- Milan beat Dortmund 2-0 at the San Siro on Wednesday
- They meet again on November 5th in Dortmund
- Inter now even-money favorites with BVB to advance in Group F alongside Barcelona
A new-look Inter Milan side managed by new boss Antonio Conte looked extremely impressive against Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday in Milan, winning convincingly over Lucien Favre’s squad, 2-0. An early Lucas Martinez effort put the Italians up just 22 minutes in and then a late goal by Antonio Candreva sealed the deal for Inter against their German opponents.

---|---|---|---|
Barcelona | -10000 | +2000 | -800 |
Borussia Dortmund | -125 | EVEN | +800 |
Inter Milan | EVEN | -125 | +800 |
Slavia Prague | +5000 | -50000 | N/A |
Odds taken October 24, 2019
Dortmund had their opportunities in this match but had a tough time putting one in the back of the net. Their only win through their first three matches in group play was against Slavia Prague, where they beat the Czech side 2-0.
Dortmund has struggled to score goals so far in UCL action, tying Barcelona 0-0 in the Champions League opener back in September. These two teams are currently tied in Group F with four points apiece.

If we take a look at Inter and Dortmund’s form in their respective leagues, Inter has looked a lot better than Dortmund this year. They sit second in Serie A through eight matches, just one point behind Juventus, having just lost one match this campaign; to Cristiano Ronaldo’s side.
Dortmund however, has looked shaky against weaker opponents in the Bundesliga. They are 4-3-1 this season, which puts them fourth in Germany. Jadon Sancho and company lost to newly-promoted FC Union Berlin earlier in the year, then tied with SC Freiburg, another squad new to the Bundesliga.
After Inter’s dramatic home win over Dortmund, the two clubs are almost level in the odds to advance from Group F, with Dortmund at -125 and Inter at even-money. Barcelona are still heavy favorites to win the group, as they were prior to the group stage starting. Meanwhile, Inter’s outright Champions League odds have shortened from +8500 to +4000.
Inter Need to Put up Good Result in Dortmund
More likely than not, Dortmund and Inter Milan’s fate in this competitive group will come down to their head-to-head matchups. Dortmund will look to thrive at home at Signal Iduna Park with their 40,000 fans roaring, but Inter will look to carry the momentum of this previous result into their November 5th clash. Both teams have more than enough quality to advance to the last 16, but it’s going to come down to this one decisive fixture.

Given Inter’s impressive play this year in all competitions, they would be a safe bet to advance in this group. The reinforcements that Antonio Conte has brought in to strengthen this squad like Romelu Lukaku, who’s bagged five goals this year, have been instrumental in their success. Lautaro Martinez has been lethal in the final third, while Marcelo Brozovic continues to be a mainstay in midfield.
Inter Milan don’t have enough to go deep into Champions League competition, but if they put up a solid result on the road in Germany, they’re going to give themselves a very strong chance of advancing to the round of 16 at the very least.
