Kownacki vs Helenius emanates from Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The tenth time that Kownacki has fought at this venue. Adam Kownacki is getting a lot of buzz as being the future of the heavyweight division. A guy who can one-day get to that upper tier. The level that features names like Joshua, Fury, and Wilder.
Standing in his path is a pugilist who has over 30 pro fights to his credit. It’s a great crossroads fight and does a lot to flesh out the heavyweight hierarchy for 2020. It further underscores that this is a banner era for the weight division.
Kownacki vs Helenius Odds
Fighter | Odds |
---|---|
Adam Kownacki | -2500 |
Robert Helenius | +1000 |
Odds taken Mar. 5
Helenius has a deep well of amateur experience to pool from. He had over 200 bouts before his 2008 pro debut. He comes from a boxing family lineage with his father training and competing on the Swedish circuit. Helenius is a former two-time European champion. Also, he has held the IBF international as well as the IBF intercontinental belts. Robert Helenius was in two different WBC world title eliminator fights. He ultimately lost to divisional stalwart Dillian Whyte and Johann Duhaupas. Kownacki vs Helenius is certainly one of many intriguing heavyweight bouts scheduled for this card.
The Time Is Now for Kownacki
Helenius finds himself in a different title eliminator bout here. He and Kownacki are vying for that WBA number one conders spot. The victor in this bout positions themselves as the mandatory challenger to the crown that is presently held by Anthony Joshua. Helenius is 1-1 across his last two. A KO loss to Gerald Washington and a win over journeyman Mateus Roberto Osorio. The same Gerald Washington that Kownacki put away via TKO in January 2019. Helenius is in a career-defining situation as he prepares for his ring walk this weekend.

Not only is Kownacki a Brooklyn native but the pugilist is also of Polish descent. Factoring in the hometown element and the pronounced Polish population in New York, I can see Kownacki getting a big partisan reaction from the audience. Helenius does have the aforementioned experience edge but also some obvious physical advantages (taller and has a longer reach). Adam has the superior KO rate but also has a high volume approach that doesn’t waver a great deal as the fight progresses.

The volume of strikes that Kownacki utilizes is genuinely unprecedented. For example, his last fight breaking a couple of CompuBox records. Out of Kownacki’s 15 KO wins (75 percent KO rate), only one of them has gone beyond the fifth round. Elite cardio is paramount here. To be mobile, evasive, and properly time entries for a terminator-type like Kownacki. Though the contest is scheduled for twelve rounds, I do not see this going the distance. In summation, I think Kownacki is able to put away Helenius via TKO inside of ten rounds.
Pick: Adam Kownacki (-2500)
