This is what the sports gambling world has come to. There are now simulated games of NBA 2K20 that the public can bet on in wake of the coronavirus.

There are two games on the docket for tonight; the Los Angeles Clippers take on the Dallas Mavericks at 5 PM ET, while the Detroit Pistons play host to the Orlando Magic at 6:30 PM ET on Twitch.

From watching earlier games on the NBA2K Stream, it seems like starting lineups, injuries, and even rotations are on par with the actual NBA before the coronavrius outbreak postponed the season.

In a simulated game between the Lakers and Jazz, Los Angeles started Avery Bradley, Danny Green, JaVale McGee, LeBron James, and Anthony Davis. Well, this was the Lakers starting lineup in the last game they played against the Brooklyn Nets.

The rotations seem pretty standard, but there are obviously not too many in-game coaching adjustments. Also, seems like “home court advantage” does not really matter in a simulated world.

Mavs & Clippers

I think the best way to look at these games is by looking at 2K ratings and NBA stats by diving into points per game, rebounding numbers, and shooting percentages. I say this because while watching the Lakers and Jazz, I realized that AD and LeBron were dominating the boards and bullying Utah.

Looking at the Clippers on 2K, they have four players in the Top 100. Kawhi Leonard is 96 overall, Paul George is 90, Montrezl Harrell is 85, and Lou Williams an 82. Now, looking at real stats the Clippers average 116.2 points per game and are the third-best rebounding team in the NBA averaging 48 per contest.

The Mavericks have just Luka Doncic (96 OVR) and Kristaps Porzingis (86 OVR) in NBA 2K20’s Top 100. However, Dallas has a secret weapon in Seth Curry who has the fourth-best three-point rating in the game at 90. The Mavericks are averaging 116.4 points and 47.0 rebounds per game.

I like the Clippers and the points in this 2K simulation. The Clippers have too many good players in this game and unless computerized Luka and Kristaps combine for 80 I don’t think they’ll cover.

NBA2K Orlando Magic CPU vs Detroit Pistons CPU Odds

I don’t know how the oddsmakers came up with these numbers, but at first glance, the Magic seem like the right pick here.

Orlando has four players in the Top 100: Nikola Vucevic at 85 overall, Jonathan Isaac 82, and Evan Fournier and Aaron Gordon at 81. Gordon has a dunk rating of 95, which could affect Orlando’s interior scoring ability against Detroit’s bad front court.

Here is the tricky part with this matchup. Blake Griffin is out for the season and his 2K rating is down to 82. This means he might be in the simulation at this rating, or he just won’t be in the game at all if they remain accurate with the rosters.

Regardless, the Magic have a much better team overall and their 2K ratings dominate Detroit’s.
